Arizona Diamondbacks

Colorado Rockies vs Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Betting Preview

For a while there it looked as though the NL West was going to be a 2-horse race between the LA Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, but a new MLB betting contender has suddenly emerged from the pack. The Arizona Diamondbacks have vaulted the Padres and are now closing in on the top spot. They will try to close that gap a little further when they face their division rivals, the Colorado Rockies, on the road for a 3-game series. The second game in this series is set for Wednesday night.

These two teams have spent much of the season switching places at the bottom of the division, but the Diamondbacks (34-35) have tapped into a rich vein of form that has seen them move up to third, just 4 games out of the division lead. This change in fortunes seems to have coincided with some roster changes, particularly at the pitcher position, where the addition of Allen Webster appears to have paid instant dividends. This current run of form began in the middle of June with a 3-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants. That helped close the gap considerably, and they followed that up with a series split with the Angels, and a series win over the Padres. There is still work to be done, but at least they are headed in the right direction. It will be Webster (1-1, 6.55 ERA) who will get the start on Tuesday. Webster followed up a winning debut with a loss to the Angels, but he looks to be an exciting young prospect. The Colorado Rockies (30-39) are buried at the bottom of the division, and have fallen right off the pace thanks to a rather miserable month of June. They endured an awful 1-9 streak before taking back to back games against the Brewers to close out their last series. As nice as it was to get those wins, it’s worth keeping in mind that Milwaukee are one of the worst teams in baseball right now. The Rockies are now 8 games out of first place, and things would have been a whole lot worse were it not for the fact that the division leading Dodgers are in a rather nasty little slump of their own. David Hale (2-2, 5.28 ERA) will take to the mound for the Rockies on Tuesday night. He lost both of his previous starts, giving up 9 runs in the process.

The Rockies have a 1-4 record against the Diamondbacks this season, and I don’t see them improving on that record here. Arizona is on a definite upswing right now, and should be able to keep it rolling with a win in this one.
