Houston Astros at Philadelphia Phillies

With Lance McCullers Jr and Dallas Keuchel taking all the press, a lot of observers have overlooked the fine work of Brad Peacock this season — but he has picked up wins in six of his last eight starts, posting a 2.70 ERA. He’s been even better on the road than at home, putting up a 2.62 ERA away from Minute Maid Park. He threw seven strong innings in his last start against the Mariners, holding Seattle to a single run.

Who Wil Start on Monday for Philadelphia?

The Phillies start gifted hurler Vince Velasquez, who has faced some injury issues this season. He makes his second start after coming back from a six-week stay on the disabled list. The two teams last squared off in interleague play in 2014, with Philadelphia sweeping the series. However, the Astros have seen their rebuilding plans come to fruition by then — while the Phillies are still in the basement of the National League East. I see Peacock guiding the Astros to a win here.

However, he pitched well on Tuesday, holding the Washington Nationals to a pair of runs over six innings. He has not picked up a win against June 6, though, when the Angels beat the Detroit Tigers. Coincidentally, that was the last day that Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger took a loss. Clevinger has been one of the Indians’ best pitchers lately, limiting opposing hitters to a pair of earned runs on 10 hits over 24 innings (four combined starts). He currently has a 15-inning streak without permitting any earned runs. He faced the Angels once last year, permitting one run on one hit over 5 ⅔ innings — and picking up his first major league victory. I like the Indians to pick up this home win over the Halos.

Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox

When: Wednesday, July 26th. 8:08pm ET Where: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois TV: ESPN /ABC 7 (Cubs) / CSN-C (White Sox) Radio: 670 The Score (Cubs) / WLS 890 (White Sox) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Jake Arrieta (9-7, 4.11 ERA) (CUBS) vs James Shields (2-2, 5.79 ERA) (SOX) The two Chicago franchises play their annual rivalry series this week, with Monday and Tuesday’s tilts taking place in afternoon fashion at Wrigley Field, before the series moves to U.S. Cellular Field for two in the home park of the White Sox. The Palehose send James Shields to the mound, who has really bounced around since going to the World Series with the Kansas City Royals. He started off the 2017 campaign well, posting a 1.62 ERA over his first three starts. However, things have fallen off the table for him since then, as he posted an 8.10 ERA over the last six starts. He does have a 2-0 lifetime record against the Cubs, but the World Series champs have now won eight of nine.

Who Will Start on Wednesday for the Cubs?

The Cubs start Jake Arrieta, who does have seven losses on the season but also has a 1-0 record and a 2.13 ERA in two starts since the All-Star break. Over that time, opponents have hit a combined .191 against him. He held St. Louis to two runs on five hits in a six-inning outing in his last start. Only four of the White Sox hitters have ever hit safely against Arrieta, and I like him to roll to a win on Wednesday night.
