It would appear that the Giants (20-18) have broken out of their batting slump in a big way. They went through a long stretch were scoring more than 6 runs in a single game seemed like the most impossible task in the world. The bats have gone hot again, though, as they cranked out 30 runs in a 3 game win streak over the Cincinnati Reds. The good news for the Giants during the cold streak was that they were still getting wins thanks to their pitching staff. If they can get offense and defense rolling at the same time, they might well be able to cut into the 4.5 game lead that the Dodgers currently have atop the division. Veteran Tim Hudson (1-3, 4.57 ERA) will take to the mound for the Giants on Tuesday. Hudson is going to have to improve on his last 2 starts, neither of which were very impressive.
There are plenty of people rooting against the Dodgers (24-13) this season because of their inflated payroll, but it has been proven time and again that spending the most money is no guarantee of success. It’s been all good so far for the Dodger, despite losing the services of YasielPuig, who further aggravated a hamstring injury while on a rehab stint. The Dodgers have been close to unbeatable at home this season, posting a 17-5 record. That said, they have dropped 3 of their last 5 home games against teams (Rockies and Marlins) that are nowhere near as good as the Giants. Carlos Frias (3-0, 2.89 ERA) will be on the mound for the Dodgers on Tuesday. Frias did not pitch particularly well in his last start versus the Marlins, but walked away with a no decision.
