Harrison is Back, but Take Arizona in MLB Betting Against Texas

There is a number of teams in the league who are essentially treading water right now. They can’t really be considered hot division MLB betting contenders, but they also cannot be totally written off. Two of those teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers, will meet up in Texas for a short 2-game interleague series.

Arizona vs. Texas MLB Game info

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 8th, 8:05PM Venue: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, TX TV: FSSW Radio: 105.3 The Fan Opening Line: Texas -135 The Arizona Diamondbacks (40-42) are one of the most frustrating teams in the league this season. Every time it looks as though they are about to go on a run that will get them back to .500 and beyond, they seem to find a way to mess things up. This inconsistency is what is largely responsible for them being 6 games back of the LA Dodgers in the NL West. That said, they are just a game back of the struggling San Francisco Giants, and could yet overtake them before the first half draws to a close. In order for that to happen, though, they are going to have to win on the road. They finish up the first half with 3 games against the Mets in New York. The D-backs haven’t been awful on the road, but are still 3 games under .500 away from home. Jeremy Hellickson (5-6, 5.06 ERA) will get the start for Arizona on Wednesday. The D-Backs have lost their last 3 road games in which Hellickson was the starter. The end of June was not kind to the Texas Rangers (41-42), as they went on a 6-game losing streak that dropped them back to .500. They did manage to recover a little, winning 3 of 4 to end the month, but they have slipped back again, kicking off the month of July by dropping 4 of 5. There are a lot of factors that come into play when explaining their fall from grace, but you have to look at the starting pitching as being where the majority of the problems lie. The good news for the Rangers is that they are getting Matt Harrison back after missing more than a year, and they will have Martin Perez and Derek Holland back in the line-up once the second half begins. They are going to need healthy starters if they are to make a dent in the 6-game deficit they are currently facing. It will be that man Harrison who gets the ball for the Rangers on Wednesday.

While it will certainly be nice to see Harrison back in the fold, it’s going to be interesting to see how he performs after such a lengthy layoff. It may take him a start or two to shake off the rust, which is why I like Arizona in this one.
