MLB Home Run Derby Betting Predictions (July 11)

The Home Run Derby bracket is out, and there are some solid hitters listed there. Giancarlo Stanton will be heading to San Diego’s Petco Park to take part, even though (somehow) he is not an All-Star for the National League this year. Todd Frazier, last year’s champion, will be back to see if he can repeat. Petco Park is a huge variable, because the ball doesn’t always fly well in San Diego, but when the team made the fences closer in 2013, it became a more homer-friendly park. Let’s take a look at the bracket and some MLB betting predictions for the derby.

Taking a Look at the MLB Home Run Derby Betting Predictions (July 11)

1 vs 8: Mark Trumbo (26 HR in 2016) vs Corey Seager (17)

Trumbo not only leads MLB in home runs, but he also leads in the “no doubt” blasts with nine, along with Edwin Encarnacion. Trumbo’s homers tend to be yanked to left off inside pitches. Seager hit 7 home runs in May and 8 more in June. However, he doesn’t have Trumbo’s power. Trumbo advances.

4 vs 5: Robinson Cano (20) vs Giancarlo Stanton (19)

Cano was the champ five years ago — and his dad pitched to him. However, he went through a 17-game streak without a blast until Wednesday. Stanton is now in just his second derby; in 2014 he slammed six but fell in the tiebreaker. Stanton advances.

3 vs 6: Adam Duvall (22) vs Wil Myers (19)

Duvall continues an amazing season, but will Myers have the advantage of a loud home crowd? Myers tends to go opposite field with a lot of his home runs, which is a nice way to deal with opposing pitching, but a derby is all about pulling the ball out of the park. Myers has hit 13 of those 19 dingers at Petco — and he hit 11 in June. Myers advances.

2 vs 7: Todd Frazier (23) vs Carlos Gonzalez (18)

The key with Frazier’s win last year was his speedy swing, and his lack of downtime between pitches, making endurance a determining factor. Gonzalez has been hitting bombs this year, but Frazier advances. Trumbo vs Stanton: I like Stanton to have some fire in him for that omission from the NL All-Star roster, and I think that Trumbo could fall into the Josh Hamilton trap from a few years ago — hitting so many in that first round that the tank is empty. Stanton advances. Myers vs Frazier: Myers has the home crowd and the momentum, while Frazier has the quick swing. I don’t see Frazier tagging as many balls with authority for a second straight year. Myers advances. Stanton vs Myers: Do you like the hometown favorite or the massive blasts of Stanton? Here’s why I’m picking Stanton to win.
