Los Angeles Angels vs New York Yankees MLB Odds and Game Preview

We are now about one third of the way through the baseball season, which is probably still way too early to start thinking about MLB Odds for division titles and potential Wild Card spots. That said, it is often what a team does through June and July that can keep them in the thick of things in the closing weeks of the season. The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels are both in the playoff mix right now, and they will meet for a 3-game series in New York starting on Friday.

The Yankees (29-25) continue to be the surprise team in the American League, and have even gone as far as proving that they are mentally tough. When they went on a run in May where they lost 10 of 11 games, the assumption was that the team everyone had expected this year had finally shown up. They responded by sweeping the Kansas City Royals, followed by a series loss to the A’s, before rebounding again to deliver a 3-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners. All told, the Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they have wrestled the AL East division lead away from the Tampa Bay Rays in the process. This is proving to be a pretty weak division this year, so a solid run of games could see a gap open up at the top. The Yankees will send Nathan Eovaldi (4-1, 4.40 ERA) to the hill on Friday. Eovaldi has been solid all season long, but was hit pretty hard in his last outing versus the A’s. The Angels (28-26) have had to play second fiddle to the AL West leading Houston Astros all season long, and they are currently now 6 games out of the top spot. The Angels clawed themselves over the .500 mark with an impressive 4-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers, but they followed that up in rather infuriating fashion by dropping 2 of 3 to the Tampa Bay Rays. It is that sort of inconsistency that has plagued the Angels all season long. The will now have to go and play 6 games on the road, where they are just 12-13 on the season. The good news for the Angels is that Jered Weaver (4-4, 4.08 ERA) will get the start on Friday. They have won the last 5 games Weaver has started, and the pitcher has gone 4-0 in those starts.

MLB Betting Trends

Weaver seems to be in the groove right now, and the Angels seem to save their best for his starts. That might be bad news for the Yankees, and I expect LA to come away with the win in the first game of the series.
