The beef that Hamels has with the Phillies management is that he signed a long term deal right before some player personnel house cleaning went on. This team is a far cry from the one that was so dominant just a few short years ago. They are just 10-19 on the year, and really haven’t put up any sort of fight to this point. It’s going to be interesting to see what they do with Hamels once it comes time to move him along, which they almost certainly will once trade deadline time comes around. Hamels (1-3, 4.14 ERA) has been blowing hot and cold this season, alternating between quality starts and poor ones. His last outing was particularly poor, as the Marlins totally hammered him en route to a 7-0 win.
The New York Mets (18-10) were one of the hottest teams in the first few weeks of the season, but things have started to go a little off the rails of late. The Mets followed up an 11-game win streak in the middle of April by going just 3-7 in the 10 games that followed. The good news is that they seem to have found some form again after winning a pair of home games against the Baltimore Orioles. A 3-game series against the struggling Phillies might very well cement this return to form as they look to hold off the surging Washington National atop the NL East. Matt Harvey (5-0, 2.41 ERA) will get the start for the Mets on Friday afternoon. Harvey has been magnificent so far, winning all 5 of his previous starts and posting a 0.92 WHIP.
