The Chicago White Sox (14-17) are starting to show some signs of life, but still have some work to do if they want to catch up the Royals and Tigers, both of whom are setting the pace in the AL Central. The White Sox were one of the teams who were a bit of a mystery coming into the season. They had made changes to their pitching staff, and had also added some pop to the line-up, but it really wasn’t clear how everyone would gel. Things certainly didn’t start out too well, but they are slowly starting to come together, and now Chicago has won 4 of its last 5 games. There is still a lot of work to be done, but they at least seem to be heading in the right direction. Rookie pitcher Carlos Rodon will get the start on Friday. The hot young prospect looked great against the Reds, giving up 2 runs in 6 innings while getting the win.
The direction that the Oakland A’s (13-23) are heading in is not one that is sitting comfortably with anyone in the organization. They are among the leaders in runs scored in the American League, yet find themselves 9 games out of top spot in the AL West. The problem here is quite simple, and it’s that they cannot keep their opponents off the board, having surrendered a ridiculous 165 runs to this point in the season. They are just 2-8 in their last 10 games, and are just 5-11 at home. Jesse Hahn (1-3, 4.73 ERA) will try to stop the bleeding for the A’s on Friday, but he is going to have to be a whole lot better than he has been as of late. He has been hit pretty hard in his last 2 outings, taking the loss in both games.
