Pittsburgh Pirates

Nationals vs. Pirates: Both Teams’ Injuries Affecting Baseball Betting Odds

You won’t see any teams in the dressing rooms popping champagne corks after a great first half, as they are well aware that the job is only halfway done. There are still sure to be plenty of tough tests ahead, as the road to the playoffs is usually a rocky one. Two teams very much in the postseason hunt, the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates, will be squaring off in a 4-game baseball betting series in Pittsburgh that starts on Thursday night.

Washington vs. Pittsburgh MLB Game Info:

Date/Time: Thursday, July 23rd, 7:05 PM Venue: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA TV: MASN, MLBN Radio: 106.7 The Fan Opening Line: You have to give a ton of credit to a Pirates (54-39) team that has been able to hang with the best team in baseball right now, the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates closed out the first half on a 13-3 streak, but their second half is proof positive as to why celebrations are saved until the end of the season. The disabled list is starting to grow, and they have gone just 1-4 since the break. Things got off to a rough start when they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, but they have managed to split the first two games of the series versus the Royals. It has been a rough road trip for Pittsburgh, and they will be happy to get back to PNC Park, where they are a very healthy 32-16 to this point in the season. Francisco Liriano (5-6, 2.98 ERA) will get the start for the Pirates on Thursday. The Pirates have won the last 4 games where Liriano has been the starter. The second half has not been particularly kind to the Washington Nationals (50-42) either, as they are currently just 2-3 on a 6-game home stand. They started out by losing 2 of 3 to the Dodgers, and have followed that up with a split of the first 2 games against the Mets. They will not want to lose the rubber match in that series, as that will allow the Mets to cut the lead at the top of the NL East down to a single game. In fairness to the Nats, they have some rather serious injury concerns on offense, and they are having to rely a little too heavily on their pitching staff, which is something that could come back to haunt them as the season wears on. Doug Fister (3-5, 4.30 ERA) will get the start for the Nationals, and will be looking to improve on the 1-4 record he has posted in his last 6 starts.

Washington Nationals

Both of these teams have some injury concerns to deal with, which means that pitching is likely to be what wins the day here. If that is indeed the case, then I like the Pirates to win this one.
