Detroit Tigers

No Clear Favorite in Friday Rangers-Tigers Baseball Betting Match

Written by on August 20, 2015

Some baseball betting fans will argue that teams who get into the playoff via the Wild Card don’t deserve to be there. The numbers would suggest otherwise, as 6 teams have gone on to win it all after getting in via that route. The Texas Rangers will be hoping to add their name to that list, but they still have some work to do to get in. They will try to get one step closer when they head to Detroit for a 4-game series versus the Tigers this weekend. The second game of the series will go on Friday night.

Texas vs. Detroit MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Friday, August 22nd, 7:08 PM Location: Comerica Park, Detroit, MI TV: FS1 Radio: 105.3 The Fan Opening line: Detroit -123 The Rangers (61-58) are certainly doing all they can in order to get in, as they are continuing to win series when they really count. They have now won 6 of their last 7 games, having swept the Tampa Bay Rays before taking 2 of 3 from the Seattle Mariners. They are also getting healthy, as ace pitcher Derek Holland returned from the DL to pick up the win in the final game versus Seattle. That addition to their starting rotation makes them all the more dangerous coming down the stretch. They are just 1.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot, and you can bet that they also haven’t given up on the division, where they sit just 4 games off the pace. Colby Lewis (13-5, 4.49 ERA) will start for the Rangers on Friday. Lewis is an impressive 5-1 in his last 6 starts. The Tigers (58-61) season is on life support at the moment, and the plug could well be pulled if they lose this series to the Rangers. They are 4.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot, and have been struggling to find a decent level of consistency for quite some time now. They gave the others in the chasing pack something to think about, though, after sweeping the Chicago Cubs in a 2-game interleague series, scoring 25 runs in the process. Whether this is a minor power surge or a sign that they are ready to take a serious run at the playoffs remains to be seen, but if they can continue with the hot bats, things could get interesting. The Tigers will send Justin Verlander (1-5, 4.11 ERA) to the mound, and will be hoping that he can continue to deliver the scoreless innings that he has posted in back to back starts.

TEXAS RANGERS
This has the makings of a real pitcher’s duel, as both men on the mound are in great form at the moment. This is like a coin flip game, but my gut tells me to go with the Rangers.
