NY Mets vs Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Odds Preview & Pick

The New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates square off Wednesday in the third game in their midweek series. The Pirates are 30-26 and sit in second place in the National League Central, already 10 games behind the Chicago Cubs. The Mets (31-24) are in second place in the National League East. The series opener on Monday was postponed, so the teams meet in a doubleheader on Tuesday before Wednesday’s game. Be sure to check out for more MLB betting lines by clicking here.

NY Mets vs Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Odds Preview & Pick

When: Wednesday, June 8, 7:05pm Eastern time Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh TV: SNY, RTPT Radio: New York / Chicago Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Noah Syndergaard (6-2, 1.91 ERA) (NY) vs Francisco Liriano (4-5, 5.25 ERA) (PIT)

Why should you bet on New York?

Noah Syndergaard has only faced the Pirates once in his young career — and the last time was last May, in just the third start in his career. He permitted four runs in that start as his career record fell to 1-2. Since that start, though, Syndergaard has a 14-7 record with a 2.83 ERA. His ERA this year has been even lower. His fastball regularly hits in the upper 90s and low 100s on the radar gun, making life difficult for opposing hitters. The Pirates have a decent offense, but no one has been able to make much headway against Thor this year.

Why should you put your money on the Pirates?

Pittsburgh’s offense has been picking up a bit as of late. Starling Marte, Jordy Mercer and Gregory Polanco have all brought their averages up in the past seven games, and if they sit on a Syndergaard fastball (and can catch up to it), they will be following the template that the Kansas City Royals used to beat Syndergaard in the World Series last fall.

Expert Betting Pick and Final Prediction

Given that the teams play a doubleheader on Tuesday before taking the field the next night for this game, take a look at the pitching matchups again after the twin billing to see if either team has to make a change. Many times, doubleheaders tax bullpens and other starters get pulled into action, which can shuffle the rotation a bit. If things stay the way they are, I’m predicting that Syndergaard will dominate the Pirate offense and lead the Mets to a 4-1 win.
