The Baltimore Orioles roll into Toronto on Thursday to open a four-game weekend set. The Orioles (34-23) lead the American League East and have won 6 of 7, including a 9-1 thumping of the Kansas City Royals that included the sight of Manny Machado decking Yordano Ventura, after Ventura sent a 99 mph fastball into Machado’s back. The Blue Jays (31-29) are in third place in the American League East, 4 ½ games behind the Orioles, and they have dropped 3 of 4, including a 3-2 loss to Detroit on Tuesday night in 10 innings. Why Should You Bet on Baltimore?

Sometimes brawls help teams come together. On August 4, 1991, the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers dueled on the field after Brewer pitcher Chris Bosio nailed Kevin Reimer in the knee. Reimer floored Bosio with a solid left cross, but the Brewers came back to win the game, 3-2. That upped their record to a fairly awful 44-60. However, they would go on a 39-19 tear the rest of the way, including wins in 10 of their last 12 games. Sometimes they don’t — after Rougned Odor knocked Jose Bautista down in a Ranger-Blue Jay brawl a couple of weeks ago, the Rangers went to Oakland and delivered a pig’s breakfast of a three-game series in which they were swept by the lowly A’s. So Tuesday’s brawl with Kansas City could help the Orioles, or it might not. What is more relevant for bettors here is that the Orioles are firing on all cylinders right now. Mark Trumbo, Ryan Flaherty, Adam Jones and Chris Davis all hit long balls on Tuesday. The O’s have won six of seven now, and in five of those wins they had to come back from a deficit. This is a team that could be ready to go an even longer dominant streak.

Why Should You Put Your Money on the Blue Jays?

Marcus Stroman is the Blue Jays’ ace, for better and for worse. He has permitted six runs or more in three of his last four starts, but the team has been able to bail him out on offense. The Tigers held the Blue Jays to just a pair of runs in their games on Monday and Tuesday, but the hope is that such sluggers as Josh Donaldson will find pitches that they can hit. The Orioles are going to put a spot starter into their rotation for Thursday’s game, which is generally a good sign for the other team (the spot starter will either be a long reliever or a call- up from AAA).

Expert Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Baltimore to keep things going. Stroman hasn’t been pitching all that well, and the Orioles are in a good place chemistry-wise and at the plate. I’m predicting a 7-4 Oriole win.
