Mets vs marlins

Painful Season for Marlins – Don’t Expect Them to Beat the MLB Odds on Wednesday

Written by on August 4, 2015

It is human nature to suddenly relax once you have achieved a goal that you have been trying to attain for quite some time. It happens in sports all the time, which is why New York Mets fans had to be concerned that a letdown might occur after their team had swept the Washington Nationals to take control of the NL East. Their next step was to face the woeful Miami Marlins in a 3-game series that had the potential to be a trip-up series. The final game of that set goes on Wednesday night in Miami.

New York Mets vs. Miami Game Info

Date/Time: Wednesday, August 5th, 7:10 PM Venue: Marlins Park, Miami, FL TV: SNY Radio: WEPN 1050, 710 WOR Opening Line: New York Mets -145 There was certainly reason for concern for Mets (56-50) fans, as their team’s MLB odds have had a bit of a rollercoaster year. They were one of the best teams right out of the gate, but have struggled with consistency for the past few months. That said, if you are going to suddenly get hot, this is the time to do it. The Mets have a great one-two punch in their starting rotation with DeGrom and Syndergaard, but what they really needed was some power in their line-up. They appear to have got that with some of the moves they made at the trade deadline, with the addition of Yoenis Cespedes of particular note. The moves seem to be paying off, as witness by the sweep of the Nats and the 12-1 win over Miami in the first game of this series. Matt Harvey (9-7, 2.91 ERA) will get the start for the Mets. Harvey has been excellent of late, and hasn’t given up more than 2 earned runs in his last 4 starts. Anything of value that the Miami Marlins (43-63) had in their line-up was traded away at the July 31 deadline. Once all was said and done, the Marlins were left with only 4 players on their team who are contracted beyond the 2015 season. This either indicates that they are looking for guys to step up and play for a contract, or that they are planning on making some sweeping changes in the offseason, with the latter being the more likely scenario. The Marlins actually pitched very well in July, posting a combined 2.79 ERA, but expect to see that number balloon, with all of their best arms now playing somewhere else. The problem with the Marlins is that they simply have zero offense, which will make the final few weeks painful to watch. David Phelps (4-7, 3.93 ERA) will start for Miami in this one.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Miami’s last 6 games at home
This has been a long and painful season for Marlins fans, and the wounds are likely to continue to be opened up in the final few weeks. I expect the Mets to inflict a little more pain on Wednesday night.
