PGA Golf Betting Picks: Travelers Championship

It may not hold the golf betting allure of the major tournaments, but the $6.4 million available at the Travelers Championship this weekend means that a pretty solid field of golfers will be taking part. The tournament will be held on the TPC River Highland course in Cromwell, Connecticut. It’s a 6,841 yard Par 70 course that looks as though it will be a good deal less challenging than what the players had to face at the US Open last weekend. Kevin Streelman will be back to defend his crown, but he will have a tough fight on his hands against a very competitive field.

Streelman has admitted that he loves the back 9 on this course, and he certainly made short work of it last year when he won the tournament. He finished the final day of play last year with 7 straight birdies, which was more than enough to pull him away from Sergio Garcia, K.J. Choi, and the rest of the chasing pack. While he may love his course, a lot has to go right in order to get on a run like that. Can we really count on the same thing happening twice in a row? Bubba Watson is the highest ranked golfer appearing in the tournament, which means he has to be included among the favorites. Watson may not be in a particularly rich vein of form, but he has won this event before. The relatively short course will make it easier for him to get on the greens in regulation, which is a part of his game that has always been a bit of a struggles. I’ll be very surprised if he is not near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday. Patrick Reed While Sergio Garcia may not have made a big splash at the Open, he did play four rounds of very consistent golf, finishing with a solid 68 on Sunday. He has already shown that he can do well on this course, tying for second last year as Kevin Streelman tore up the course on Sunday afternoon. Garcia is another guy that I expect to be around to the very end.

Everyone of course remembers how well Jordan Spieth played while winning the US Open, but that are all sure to have forgotten how well Patrick Reed played over the first 36 holes. He was tied with Spieth and was part of the final pairing on Saturday, but it appears that the spotlight burned a little too bright for his tastes. No such spotlight will exist this weekend, which is why I think Reed might be the one to come out on top.
