MLB Betting Analysis After Week 6: Blake Snell, Tyler Anderson, Braxton Garrett and Corey Kluber not to Consider

MLB Betting Analysis After Week 6: Blake Snell, Tyler Anderson, Braxton Garrett and Corey Kluber not to Consider

The Texas Rangers lead the American League West with a 26-17 record, but the bullpen is a dumpster fire right now. Their total ERA is over 4.00; in the last 13 games, the bullpen ERA is an eye-popping 7.12. Rangers relievers have permitted home runs in four consecutive games entering a series with the Colorado Rockies this weekend. Of the 17 losses, nine have come thanks to the bullpen – three in a row coming in Cincinnati, as the Reds walked off with all three victories. Obviously, the Rangers’ relief corps is a reason to avoid picking them right now, unless Jon Gray or Nathan Eovaldi is starting. What other pitchers should you avoid with your MLB betting choices?

MLB Betting News: Pitchers to Avoid after Week 6 | MLB Lines

Blake Snell, San Diego Padres (1-5, 4.61 ERA)

The San Diego Padres got Blake Snell for his Cy Young pedigree, but they haven’t gotten those kinds of results from him. He hasn’t pitched all that badly, but the Padres have only won one game of the eight he has started in 2023. That win came on May 1, as Snell actually had one of his less effective outings, allowing three runs on eight hits, but the offense showed up in an 8-3 victory. Since then, he has had two starts, both against th eDodgers, and in each he gave up two runs over six innings, striking out 11 combined – but walking 10. Snell is either missing the plate or finding too much of it, and the Padres’ offense isn’t supporting him right now.

Tyler Anderson, L.A. Angels (1-0, 5.27 ERA)

How could a pitcher without a loss end up on this list? Well, the offense has either bailed him out of losses, or the bullpen has gotten him off the hook, or both. He started the season with a six-inning gem in Oakland, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out seven and not permitting a run. In his next three starts after that, he allowed 16 earned runs in 14 innings combined, including five home runs. After that, things got better, and in his last two starts he has allowed six earned runs combined over 11 innings. However, the bullpen and the offense have gotten him out of trouble – and this is not a sustainable trend.

Braxton Garrett, Miami Marlins (1-2, 5.40 ERA)

Braxton Garrett had a terrific April, only getting one win (thanks to a lack of offensive support while he was still in the game), but his ERA was 2.45. Then he got rocked for 11 runs on 14 hits, including four home runs, in 4 ⅓ dreadful innings in Atlanta. Then the Diamondbacks lit him up for four runs on seven hits in his next start. He did throw five innings of three-hit, one-run ball on Sunday, but he still didn’t get the win, thanks to a lack of timely hitting from his offense. I’d wait a couple more starts to see if he is back on track.

Corey Kluber, Boston Red sox (2-5, 6.41 ERA)

The Red Sox are just the latest team to hope that Kluber can pitch something like his dominant days in Cleveland, but he has only permitted fewer than three earned runs twice this season; in the month of May, he has thrown 15 ⅓ innings, allowing 10 runs on 19 hits, including four home runs, striking out 13 and walking seven. The Sox have won three of the games he started, but they’ve had to score 21 runs in those games to do it.
