Rangers vs Yankees: MLB Betting Odds, Pick and Prediction in Week 12

Rangers vs Yankees: MLB Betting Odds, Pick and Prediction in Week 12

Injuries keep plaguing the New York Yankees, and they got more bad news on Wednesday night. The Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners, 4-2, but the win was costly, as outfielder Willie Calhoun pulled his left quad while trying to get to first on an infield single that he dribbled to third base. He’s injured this quad before, back in 2019 when he was with the Texas Rangers, and he also took a pitch to the face in spring training in 2020 and fractured a forearm in 2021, so he has spent a lot of time on the injured list. The Yankees are set to welcome those same Rangers for a weekend series; the Rangers lead the American League West and have the top run differential in baseball. MLB Betting News: Series Spotlight Texas Rangers at N.Y. Yankees (June 23-25) | MLB Lines

Dane Dunning (6-1, 2.78 ERA) (TEX) vs Clarke Schmidt (2-6, 4.65 ERA) (NY)

When: Friday, June 23, 7:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium
Live Stream: MLB.tv

Dunning’s ERA was 1.67 after a one-run, six-hit outing in Pittsburgh on May 22. Since then, his ERA has crept upward, and in three June starts, that number is a less impressive 4.86. He has allowed three or more runs in three of his last four starts, and the Rangers have gone 2-2 in those games. His last start lasted six innings, as he gave up two runs on six hits, including a home run, in a 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday. His outings have downgraded slightly from dominant to quality, making the Ranger bats do more to help him out.

Clarke Schmidt’s ERA was 6.30 after getting pasted for seven runs by Tampa Bay on May 14. Since then, he has been whittling that number down, allowing two or fewer runs in five of his last six starts. He doesn’t go particularly far into games; in Boston on Sunday, he came out after 4 ⅔ innings, having allowed a pair of runs on five hits in what would turn into a 6-2 loss. The Yankee bats aren’t helping him out a whole lot, as they have scored just seven runs in his last five starts, all team losses. Rangers to win.

Jon Gray (6-2, 2.96 ERA) (TEX) vs Luis Severino (0-2, 6.30 ERA) (NY)

When: Saturday, June 24, 4:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium
Live Stream: MLB.tv

Jon Gray had permitted no more than one run in six straight starts between May 8 and June 7, including a complete-game performance over St. Louis on June 7 in which he allowed a single run on four hits, including a solo shots, walking a dozen without issuing a walk. The Blue Jays got to him in his next start, sending him to the showers after just 2 ⅓ inning as he gave up six runs on six hits. Even so, the Ranger bats helped him out a lot more than he did in that gem against St. Louis, as he ended up taking a hard-luck 1-0 loss against the Cardinals, while the Rangers came back to pound the Blue Jays, 11-7.

Luis Severino started the season recovering from injury, and he posted a sparkling 1.59 ERA in May. June has been less kind, though, as he has an unsightly 9.16 ERA over four starts. In his last outing, the Red Sox scored four runs (three earned) on seven hits over five innings in a 4-1 loss. His velocity is there, but he’s just putting way too many balls over the fat part of the plate. Rangers to win.

Andrew Heaney (5-4, 3.98 ERA) (TEX) vs Gerrit Cole (8-1, 2.64 ERA) (NY)

When: Sunday, June 25, 1:35 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium
Live Stream: MLB.tv (free)

Andrew Heaney had a couple of tough outings to start June, only lasting three innings in a start against Seattle while allowing three runs, and giving up four runs (three earned) over five innings in a loss at Tampa Bay. His pitch count got high as he struggled with control against the Angels on June 14, but he still only allowed a run on five hits. In Chicago on Monday, he led the White Sox to a pair of runs (on two solo shots) over 5 ⅔ innings of a 5-2 win.

Gerrit Cole was the only Yankee pitcher to beat Texas in a four-game set down in Arlington earlier in the season. He had a pair of rough outings at the end of May, giving up five runs in two straight starts against Baltimore and San Diego, but the Yankee offense helped him out, and the team won both games. He has only allowed more than one run in one start in June; in his last outing, he held Seattle to a run on four hits over 7 ⅓ innings in a 3-1 win, striking out eight while walking just one. Yankees to win.
