Atlanta Braves

Saturday Baseball Betting Preview: D-backs vs. Braves

Written by on August 14, 2015

As a baseball betting fan, you can take a losing season if you get the sense that your team has a plan for the future. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves are both having less than stellar seasons, but only one of them is showing any kind of upwards trajectory. It is going to be interesting to see how these two teams compare when they meet for a 3-game series in Atlanta, with the second game of that series set for Saturday.

Arizona vs. Atlanta MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Saturday, August 15th, 7:10 PM Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, GA TV: FS-A Radio: KSUN La Mejor 1400, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Opening Line: Arizona -135 Everyone knew that the Braves (51-63) were heading into a rebuilding year at the start of the season, but the moves that they have made are a little confusing. It was made clear that youth was going to be the order of the day in Atlanta, but they have made a bunch of moves for veteran guys, many of whom are on the wrong side of their best years. There currently isn’t anyone in the line-up under the age of 25, which has to be baffling to people who were waiting to see what this team might look like in the future. The Braves are coming into this one on a 3-game losing skid after dropping the final game of a 4-game series against the Marlins, and then losing back to back interleague games to the Tampa Bay Rays. Mike Foltynewicz (4-3, 5.23 ERA) will start for Atlanta, who have come up with the win in both of his previous starts. The Diamondbacks (56-57) took a little glimpse into the past this week when they retired the number 51 jersey of Randy Johnson. This is a team that has its eyes firmly on the future, though, and will this season may well end up being a .500 one, it is certainly a vast improvement over what they did in 2014. There is still a faint hope that the D-Backs might get into a Wild Card spot, but they are 9 games off the pace right now, and haven’t really shown the ability to string together a long winning streak. This is a team that has flirted with .500 all year, and if truth be told, that may be better than what was expected of them heading into this season. Patrick Corbin (2-3, 4.08 ERA) is coming off a quality start in his last outing, and will be hoping for more of the same here.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Arizona’s last 9 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 11 of Arizona’s last 15 games
  • Atlanta is 11-2 SU in its last 13 games when playing at home against Arizona
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Atlanta’s last 7 games at home
The Braves are a difficult team to figure out right now, as they don’t really have any kind of identity. The D-backs are not a great team by any stretch of the imagination, but they at least seem to know where they are headed, which is why I like them to get the win.
