The St. Louis Cardinals renew their National League Central rivalry against the newly resurgent Cubs in Chicago. Toronto heads south of the border to take on a shaky Cleveland Indians squad, and the Boston Red Sox are out on the West Coast against the Los Angeles Angels. Take a look at all of our research and insights before locking in your wagers.

Saturday’s Top MLB Betting Picks & Predictions (July 22nd)

St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

When: 4:05 PM ET Where: Wrigley Field TV: FS1 (St. Louis) / CSN-C (Chicago) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: KMOX 1120 (St. Louis) / 670 The Score (Chicago) MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Adam Wainwright (11-5, 5.08 ERA) (STL) vs Jon Lester (6-6, 4.07 ERA) (CHI) The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten four wins out of Adam Wainwright in his last four starts. One of those was a 14-6 trouncing of Miami in which the Cardinal bats atoned for a shaking pitching performance from Wainwright. However, in the other three — a win over the Diamondbacks in Arizona and a pair of wins against the New York Mets — he has thrown 18 ⅔ combined innings and permitted six combined runs, allowing three home runs and striking out 18.

Is He a Good Choice for the Cardinals?

He takes on a Cubs team that enters the weekend winners of six in a row, finally showing signs of shaking off that long World Series hangover. Jon Lester spun a gem his last time out, holding the Atlanta Braves to three hits and a single run over seven innings, fanning six men. That came after a disastrous start the previous outing, in which he did not make it out of the first inning, permitting ten runs (four earned) on six hits and a pair of home runs. I’m a big believer in momentum, and right now the Cubs have it. Give me Lester and the Cubs to win.

Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians

When: 7:10 PM ET Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio TV: SNET (Toronto) /  SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WTAM 1100 (Cleveland) MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Marcus Stroman (9-5, 3.10 ERA) (TOR) vs Danny Salazar (3-5, 5.40 ERA) (CLE) After making a bit of a move three weeks ago, when the Indians pushed past the Twins to take the American League Central lead, it looked like they were ready to get back to last year’s World Series form. However, they continue to hover near the .500 mark, still atop their division but very much vulnerable to hot streaks from the Twins or the Royals. Salazar returns for his first start since May 27, having spent the intervening time on the disabled list (right shoulder inflammation). His numbers against Toronto in his career have been decent (2-1, 4.58 ERA in four starts), but he will be shaking off some rust in his return.

Who Could Start for the Blue Jays on Saturday?

Marcus Stroman is the best starter in the Blue Jays’ rotation this year. In eight of his last nine starts, he has permitted no more than three earned runs. He has started against Cleveland four times, posting a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA. Other than Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana, none of the Cleveland hitters have had much extended success against Stroman. I see him outpitching Salazar, who will still be trying to get things back in order after his lengthy DL stint, and I see the Blue Jays winning this one.

Are the Indians a safe MLB betting pick for this Saturday?

Boston Red Sox at L.A. Angels

When: 9:07 PM ET Where: Angel Stadium of Anaheim TV: MLB Extra Innings / NESN (Boston) / FS-W (LA) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: 103.7 FM (Boston) / KLAA 830 (LA) MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: David Price (5-2, 3.39 ERA) (BOS) vs J.C. Ramirez (8-8, 4.54 ERA) (LA) Boston’s David Price answered a lot of his questions in his last start, when he blanked the NewYork Yankees for eight innings on national television, fanning eight batters. Price had missed the first two months of the season with injury but is a dangerous pitcher right now. The Red Sox have pushed out to 11 games over .500, moving away from the Rays and the Yankees in the American League East. Albert Pujols (.240, 2 HR, 2 RBI) and Kole Calhoun (.313, 1 HR, 2 RBI) are the only Angels who have hit Price well historically.

Who Will The Angels Start Off?

Los Angeles sends out J.C. Ramirez, who took a loss his last time out, permitting four runs in six innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. However, he has pitched remarkably well against Boston in his career, posting a 0.90 ERA over 10 innings, five appearances, which include a start. However, the only current Boston hitter with more than five at-bats against Ramirez, Mitch Moreland, has a .333 lifetime average against him with a home run. I like the Boston bats to get enough offense going to reward Price for another strong start and deliver a Red Sox win.
