The Brewers are underdogs against the Yankees in this MLB series.

MLB Series Betting Prediction: Milwaukee at N.Y. Yankees

Interleague play takes over Yankee Stadium this weekend as the Milwaukee Brewers, still in the mix in that pedestrian National League Central race, head to The Bronx to take on a New York Yankees team that is having a hard time cobbling together two wins in a row. Although the betting odds favor the Yankees over the Brewers taking this MLB series. The Yankees had started the season red-hot in the American League East, but now they have fallen four games behind the Boston Red Sox and are in danger of falling out of the wild card slots as well. Let’s take a look at each matchup in this weekend set — and you can take away our recommendations for your MLB betting for each game.

MLB Series Betting Prediction: Milwaukee at N.Y. Yankees

Friday, July 7th

When: 7:05pm ET Where: Yankee Stadium TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / FSWI (Milwaukee) / YES (NY) Radio: WTMJ 620 (Milwaukee) / WFAN 660 (NY) Live StreamMLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Junior Guerra (1-3, 4.93 ERA) (MIL) vs Jordan Montgomery (6-4, 3.62 ERA) (NY) The Junior Guerra experiment in Milwaukee has not been much of a success so far. His fastball, which had been a plus pitch, now has a hard time cracking 90 on the gun. The Miami Marlins took him apart his last time out, as he permitted four runs in four innings. His offspeed pitches show more control, but as long as hitters can sit back and wait for an average fastball that he tends to put over the white part of the plate, he’s going to give up some runs. It’s pretty easy to imagine Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez waiting for that iffy heater to come down the pike so they can add to their home run totals. The Yankees start Jordan Montgomery, who has come on lately. In June, he started five games and posted a 2.59 ERA and a 4-0 record. He did allow three runs over 5 ⅓ innings against the Astros in his last start, but they have been mashing against just about everyone. I see Montgomery having more success against an average Brewer offense than Guerra will have against a potent Yankee attack, so give me the Pinstripes in the opener.

Saturday, July 8th

When: 1:05pm ET Where: Yankee Stadium TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / FSWI (Milwaukee) / YES (NY) Radio: WTMJ 620 (Milwaukee) / WFAN 660 (NY) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Brent Suter (1-1, 3.00 ERA) (MIL) vs Luis Severino (5-4, 3.52 ERA) (NY) You know that your team is struggling when you haven’t had a starter get a win for you at home in almost five years, but that’s where the Milwaukee Brewers are. Brent Suter picked up a win on Monday, taking a spot start in relief of the injured Chase Anderson. Suter fanned eight men to pick up the win. However, Suter pitches opposite All-Star Luis Severino (whose selection is based more on his ERA than his record). Severino’s last outing was not particularly special, though, as he permitted six runs over 5 ⅓ innings against Houston. Even so, I don’t think that the Brewers will do as much damage against Severino, and I see the big stage of Yankee Stadium getting to Suter some — and those big right-handed bats in the Yankee lineup will get hittable pitches. I’ll take the Yankees on Saturday as well.

Sunday, July 9th

When: 1:05pm ET Where: Yankee Stadium TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / FSWI (Milwaukee) / YES (NY) Radio: WTMJ 620 (Milwaukee) / WFAN 660 (NY) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Jimmy Nelson (7-4, 3.20 ERA) (MIL) vs Masahiro Tanaka (7-7, 5.25 ERA) (NY) Has the Yankees’ ace returned? Tanaka has put together three solid starts in a row, putting up a 2-0 record and a 1.29 ERA. The no-decision came on a night when he threw eight scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers, but the bullpen picked up the win in extra innings. The Brewers send Jimmy Nelson to the mound. He has fanned eight men each in four straight starts, and his last time out saw a 6-2 victory over Baltimore on Tuesday, as he threw seven innings but permitted no earned runs. Even more impressive was the fact that the Orioles did not draw a single walk. I like Nelson to close out the first half of the season with another solid pitching performance, and I see Milwaukee taking the series finale.

Final MLB Series Thoughts

Although the Brewers have been improving much lately, it’s still a tough call for them to take this MLB series. Then again, the Yankees have had terrible weeks recently. New York has the home field advantage so it’s likely they will take the series.
