Tigers a Slight Baseball Betting Favorite Against Red Sox

In any sport, teams that do well tend to be the ones that have a great record when playing at home. Making your home field a fortress of sorts allows you to be less than stellar on the road, and is often enough to launch a team into the playoffs. The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers have a bunch of problems this baseball betting season, but their home records are certainly a big issue. These two teams will square off in a 3-game series in Boston starting on Friday.

Detroit vs. Boston MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Friday, July 24th, 7:10 PM Venue: Fenway Park, Boston, MA TV: FS-D Radio: 97.1 The Ticket Opening Line: Boston -130 The Tigers (47-47) were a team that got very used to winning at home in the past few years, but this season has been a struggle. They are currently a game below .500 at Comerica Park, which is simply not going to get the job done in a division where the Kansas City Royals, a team who are 15 games over .500 at home, are dominating. The Tigers have a lot of things that need to be fixed, but it has to be said that their starting rotation is right at the heart of the problem. This was a team that was in the division hunt in the early part of the season, but who have now fallen 10.5 games off the pace. Given how the Royals are going, that would appear to be a deficit that will be impossible to overcome, especially with their pitching staff in such a mess. Justin Verlander (0-3, 6.62 ERA) will start for a Detroit Tigers team that has failed to win any of the 6 games Verlander has started this season. For a brief moment towards the end of the first half of the season, it looked as though the Boston Red Sox (42-53) might be making a move that would get them back into a tight division race in the AL East. Red Sox fans dared to dream, but those dreams have been totally shattered by an 0-6 start to the second half that now leaves them trailing the Yankees by 11 games. The losing streak has now been extended to 7 games, and the season really is now beginning to look as though it is over in Boston. Like the Tigers, Boston just haven’t been able to get the job done at home, where they sit a game under .500. The offense has sputtered badly to start the second half, scoring just 9 total runs in those 6 games. Rick Porcello (5-10, 5.79 ERA) will start for the Red Soxon Friday.

Verlander has not been very sharp since coming off the DL, but going against a team whose bats are stone cold might just be the tonic he needs. I like the Tigers to come away with the win in this one.
