Tigers vs. Royals: Great Pitching Match-up with Very Tight Baseball Betting Odds

Written by on August 31, 2015

We tend to measure how good a team is by the number of wins and losses that they put together during the course of a baseball betting season. Another good marker is to look at how dominant a team is in their division. If we use the latter, then it is pretty obvious that the Kansas City Royals are an incredibly good ball club, and one of the top candidates to represent the AL in the World Series. They will play a division game at home against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.

Detroit vs. Kansas City MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 1st, 8:10 PM Location: Ewing M. Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO TV: FSKC Radio: KCSP 610 Opening line: Kansas City -150 It was just another week at the office for the Kansas City Royals (80-50), as they chalked up another 5 wins and opened the lead at the top of the AL Central to a staggering 13 games. They have far and away the best record in the American League, and you have to wonder when they might start giving some of their top players a rest heading down the stretch and into the playoffs. This is a team that came ever so close to being the champion last season, and you know they want to go one better this year. Having a group that is fit and healthy is the way to do it, and with a lead as big as they have right now, the temptation to start giving guys the day off has to be there. Johnny Cueto (9-9, 2.94 ERA) was a great trade deadline pick-up, but he hast struggled in his last 2 starts for the Royals. There is a huge gap between the division leading Royals and the cellar dwelling Tigers (60-70) in the AL Central. The 20-game gap is sure to grow as long as the Tigers keep putting in the type of performances that they did last week. They went just 1-5 last week, and are coming into this series on a 4-game losing skid. That included a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays over the weekend, with not much of a fight put up by Detroit. The Jays scored 29 runs over those 3 games, while the Tigers could only manage to get 6 runs over the plate. You get the sense that it could be more of the same in this series, although they do have a little glimmer of hope in this Tuesday game. That comes in the form of Justin Verlander (2-6, 3.45 ERA), who has been nothing short of spectacular over his last 4 starts.

This has all the makings of a great pitching match-up, assuming that Cueto can get out of the funk he is in at the moment. While I believe the Royals will win the series, I think Verlander helps the Tigers steal one here.
