Top MLB Betting Series of the Week: Milwaukee at New York

Coming out of the weekend, the Los Angeles Dodgers have caught the San Francisco Giants, moving into a tie for the lead in the National League West, thanks to a nine-game winning streak. The Milwaukee Brewers finally saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end, but they have still built an impressive seven-game lead in the NL Central over the Cincinnati Reds, while the Chicago Cubs’ free fall continues in a nine-game skid. The New York Mets lead Atlanta in the NL East by 3 ½ games and are the only team in the division with a winning record. In the American League East, Boston has won nine of ten and leads Tampa Bay by 4 ½ games. The Chicago White Sox have dropped two in a row, but the Cleveland Indians have dropped six straight, so the White Sox still lead by six games in the AL Central. Houston has won four in a row and now leads Oakland by 3 ½ in the AL West.

Coming into this week, let’s take a look at your top MLB betting series from the national pastime.

MLB News: Top Betting Series of the Week

Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets

Monday, July 5, 7:10 pm ET

Brandon Woodruff (MIL) vs Tylor Megill (NY)

Brandon Woodruff got shelled on June 17 in Colorado, giving up five runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs, in five innings of a 7-3 loss to the Rockies. Since then, though, he has thrown 13 combined innings against Arizona and the Cubs, permitting just two earned runs on seven hits, striking out 17 while walking just five. If he can deliver similar stuff against the Mets’ offense, then the Brewers have a great chance to start this series with a win.

Tylor Megill will make his third start of 2021; both of his first two outings were against the Atlanta Braves, and the Mets won both of them. His durability is a question, as he has gone just 9 ⅓ innings in those starts, permitting five earned runs on eight hits, but the team has been able to work its way around the pitching and delivered wins, thanks in part to solid bullpen outings in both games.

Final Prediction:
Brewers 6, Mets 3

Brett Anderson (MIL) vs Jacob deGrom (NY)

It’s been feast or famine for Brett Anderson lately; on June 9, he lasted just three innings against Cincinnati, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits, walking two. Then he threw seven stellar innings against the Reds six days later, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine in shutout fashion. On June 21, though, he left after 1 ⅓ innings against Arizona, having given up three runs on five hits. He skipped his turn in the rotation and now returns to take on the Mets’ ace.

Jacob deGrom still has a sub-1.00 ERA but has allowed five earned runs in his last two starts, on eight hits in 13 innings combined against Philadelphia and Atlanta. He struck out 14 in his last start against the Braves, but he also permitted a home run and three earned runs, so he is more touchable than he was.

Final Prediction:
Mets 5, Brewers 3

Wednesday, July 7, 7:10 pm ET

Corbin Burnes (MIL) vs TBA (NY)

Corbin Burnes comes into this game on the strength of 13 ⅓ innings of seven-hit, two-run ball, with a dozen strikeouts against just three walks, and the Brewers won both of those games, beating Colorado in 11 innings and then taking down the Pirates on July 1. Until the Mets announce a starter, I would not lock in a wager for this game, but this showdown of National League division leaders will bring sports betting excitement once they name one.
