Top MLB Odds Series to Bet on This Week

The Major League Baseball schedule brings us another week closer to the All-Star break this year, and we’re seeing some interesting trends starting to unfold. So, yes, this is a good week to bet on the MLB odds. The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros seem to be settling back down gently to earth again. The Cleveland Indians seem to be finding their form from last year, surging into first place in the AL Central after knocking off the previous leaders, the Minnesota Twins, in a weekend series. The Chicago Cubs haven’t recovered from their World Series hangovers — but they’re only 2.5 games out in the NL Central. The Colorado Rockies have played 72 of their 162 games of the season, and they still have a one-game lead over the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks in the NL West. We have some interesting series for you to consider as you put your bets together for this coming week.

When: Monday, June 19th to Thursday, June 22nd) Where: Globe Life Park, Arlington, Texas MLB Odds: Blue Jays at -130 / Rangers at +110

Toronto at Texas MLB Odds Preview

These two teams tangled in the last two postseasons, with Toronto prevailing each time. The iconic punch that Texas second baseman Rougned Odor delivered to the apparently glass jaw of Jose Bautista early in the 2016 campaign punctuated a rivalry that continues to build — and this week’s games should show a similar level of saltiness. Texas comes in at 34-34, while the Blue Jays come in at 33-35, both teams having struggled to find consistency. Toronto has struggled more at the plate, while the Rangers’ frustrations have come from poor pitching performances, both from starters and relievers.

Monday, June 19th

Monday’s pitching matchup features Marco Estrada for the Blue Jays and Austin Bibens-Dirkx for the Rangers. Bibens-Dirkx is a 32-year- old rookie who scuffled around in his first few starts, failing to make it out of the fifth inning (although keeping the Rangers in the game each time — the losses that they took came because of poor bullpen performances). On June 11, though, he spun a masterpiece, outdueling Washington’s Max Scherzer, going seven innings and permitting just one earned run on a solo home run — and just permitting three hits total. Estrada has been getting hit hard lately, giving up 19 hits and 10 earned runs in his last nine innings (two starts combined). So I like the Rangers to open this series with a win.

Tuesday, June 20th

Tuesday night features two pitchers (Francisco Liriano for Toronto and Nick Martinez for Texas) who are inconsistent and have a tendency to give up a lot of hits. Liriano has given up 14 earned runs in his last four starts (19 combined innings). The Blue Jays have won all four of those games, but they’ve had to score 29 runs in those four games to do it. Martinez pitched well against Houston his last time out but has the tendency to get torched in his second and third times through the batting order. So I might pick from another series for Tuesday night’s betting. The Texas Rangers are the underdogs in the MLB odds against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wednesday, June 21st

Wednesday night’s pitching matchup features Joe Biagini for Toronto and Tyson Ross for Texas. Ross made his first start for the Rangers on Friday, going 5 ⅔ innings against the Mariners, giving up a pair of hits and a pair of earned runs, striking out five Mariners in a 10-4 win. The Blue Jays have never faced Ross, which gives him an advantage at least the first time through the order. Biagini had only given up four earned runs in 14 combined innings in wins over the Yankees and Mariners, but then his last time out he only lasted one inning, permitting eight hits and six earned runs on Friday against the Chicago White Sox. Reports indicate that Ross had solid control and hit his spots well against the Mariners, and I like the Rangers to win on Wednesday night.

Thursday, June 22nd

Thursday afternoon will likely feature low offense because those Texas temperatures will soar up into the 90s, but the getaway day for both teams moves this game to the early afternoon. We’ll see the Blue Jays’ ace, Marcus Stroman, and one of Texas’ more inconsistent pitchers in Martin Perez. Stroman has gone seven innings in each of his last two starts, permitting just four combined earned runs. He did allow three home runs against the White Sox in his last start, but each one was a solo shot, limiting the damage. Perez pitched reasonably well against Seattle on Saturday afternoon, allowing four earned runs in 5 ⅓ innings, but his last two starts before that saw seven combined earned runs in just 8 ⅔ combined innings. I like the Blue Jays to close out this series with a win.
