When: 7:08pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston TV: SNET (Toronto) / NESN (Boston) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WEEI 93.7 (Boston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: Red Sox at -110 Pitching Matchup: Marcus Stroman (9-5, #.28 ERA) (TOR) vs Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2, 3.54 ERA) (BOS) Eduardo Rodriguez has been on the disabled list since June 1, since he went down with a right knee subluxation — so expect some rust. The Blue Jays haven’t been one of his favorite opponents, either, as he has a 1-3 career record against them with a 6.35 ERA. Darwin Barney, Jose Bautista, Royan Goins and Russell Martin have all gone deep off him in their careers. Toronto starts Marcus Stroman, who has put together a string of three strong starts in a row. In his last start, he held the Houston Astros to a single run over seven innings. He faced the Red Sox most recently back in April, permitting six runs in a losing effort. Some of the big Boston bats enjoy hitting against Stroman, too, such as Xander Bogaerts (.500 career average, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and Dustin Pedroia (.467) and Mitch Moreland (3-3 lifetime). I like Rodriguez to come out sharp in his return and boost the Red Sox to a win in the opener.Tuesday, July 18th
When: 7:10pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston TV: SNET (Toronto) / NESN (Boston) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WEEI 93.7 (Boston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: J.A. Happ (3-6, 3.54 ERA) (TOR) vs Doug Fister (0-3, 6.75 ERA) (BOS) Doug Fister has definitely been the weak link in the Boston rotation. Against Texas, in his last start before the All-Star break, he permitted five hits and six runs in 3 ⅔ innings in an ugly loss. He last faced Toronto on June 30, when he permitted three runs in a no-decision. Kendrys Morales (.316, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Jose Bautista (.444) and Josh Donaldson (.667) all have hit Fister well in the past. Opposite Fister is Toronto’s J.A. Happ, whose six losses are more a function of poor run support. His ERA since June 11 has been just 2.27 despite getting knocked around by Houston his last time out, permitting six runs (although just two earned) in four innings. Against the Red Sox, Happ has posted a 2.89 ERA since the 2012 season. I like Happ and the Blue Jays to deliver this win and even the series.Wednesday, July 19th
When: 7:10pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston TV: SNET (Toronto) / NESN (Boston) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WEEI 93.7 (Boston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Aaron Sanchez (1-2, 3.94 ERA) (TOR) vs Drew Pomeranz (9-4, 3.75 ERA) (BOS) Pomeranz is in a nice groove right now, having gone without a loss since June 11 and pitching into the sixth inning in five of his last six outings. In his last start, he permitted four runs to the New York Yankees in a no-decision. Russell Martin is the only Toronto regular who has homered off Pomeranz, although Justin Smoak (.429 career average) has hit him well. Toronto starts Aaron Sanchez in just his third outing since mid-May. He threw six strong innings his last time out to get that first win over the season — and he is 4-0 in his last four starts against the Red Sox. Jackie Bradley, Jr. (.333, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and Chris Young (.400) have hit Sanchez well, and I see Pomeranz continuing his hot streak to outpitch Sanchez and give the Red Sox a win.Thursday, July 19th
When: 1:35pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston TV: SNET (Toronto) / NESN (Boston) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WEEI 93.7 (Boston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Series Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Undecided (TOR) vs Chris Sale (11-4, 2.59 ERA) (BOS) In his last outing, Sale fanned 13 Yankees in 7 ⅔ innings. So far, he has struck out at least ten batters 13 times, and he only needs to do that six more times to tie Pedro Martinez for the franchise record in one season. Until the Blue Jays announce a starter (and pending injury results between now and then) I might hold off on this bet, but this is Boston’s ace, and he’ll give them as solid a chance as anyone in their rotation.Latest MLB Series Trends
