Now that the Los Angeles Dodgers have caught the San Francisco Giants in the National League West, it will be interesting to see if the Giants have the stamina to stay with the Dodgers or at least in playoff contention, or if they will start to wilt in the summer heat. The Dodgers and the San Diego Padres have had better sports betting odds to win the World Series than the Giants all season long, so if the Giants can hold on in this marathon, their bettors will be handsomely rewarded. Another team that is way down the odds list is te Boston Red Sox, but the Sox have won nine of their last ten, while the favorites in their division, the New York Yankees, sit in fourth – and in chaos.
Let’s look at the latest MLB odds for each team.

In the rivalry between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers, a key factor will be their record against one another. The Dodgers have won six of the first nine meetings, although five of those wins have been by no more than tree runs. They play seven more times before August 1, and if the Giants want to take back their lead, they will have to go through their longtime rivals. The Dodgers are enjoying the resurgence of closer Kenley Jansen; he has a 1.38 ERA and has posted 20 saves in 22 chances, thanks to a slider to complement his cutter.
The San Diego Padres are failing to keep pace with the Dodgers and the Giants thanks in part to the forearm woes of Dinelson Lamet, who has been shut down again. However, Drew Pomeranz returns to the bullpen after missing seven weeks due to a shoulder impingement. The bullpen has had to play a lot of innings, so they need a fresh Pomeranz. Lefty Ryan Weathers has filled in well in the rotation but appears to be showing signs of wear.
The Boston Red Sox is 6-0 against the Yankees this season. Garrett Richards had a terrific start to 2021 in the rotation but has fallen off a bit, so the team would love to see Chris Sale back at full strength. The likes of Josh Taylor, Garrett Whitlock, Adam Ottavino and Hirokazu Sawamura in the bullpen have been tremendous, and closer Matt Barnes has been ironclad.
The Chicago White Sox are looking for some replacements for injured players, and the Palehose may be going after Arizona infielder Eduardo Escobar. He is a terrific defender, but he does not have a particularly impressive bat, as he has low contract metrics. He can deliver power, but he needs more patience. The White Sox could also use a hitter who is better at simply getting on base than knocking in runs at this point.
The Oakland A’s are flagging a bit in the West but still could factor in the wild card standings down the stretch. The team lost leadoff batter Mark Canha with a left hip strain to the injured list, which means that the A’s have fewer choices on both offense and defense in the outfield – and need a dynamic bat in the top spot now.
The Cleveland Indians called up Harold Ramirez, and he has hit for both power and average while playing all three spots in the outfield. They also called up Bobby Bradley, and in his first three weeks at first base, he has a solid .889 OPS. Josh Naylor went down with an awful leg injury in right field, and the team needs a big bat in his stead.
