This Week’s Free MLB Betting Predictions & Picks

We’ve got some solid MLB betting predictions for you this week, as the teams approach the All- Star break and have to consider whether they will become buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. Some teams (such as the Rangers, Angels and Cubs) are just a player or two (or perhaps just a mental adjustment or two) from starting to contend, while others have some assets that they may be willing to trade for some draft choices or minor-league talent. Take a look at our primo matchups for this week’s action.

Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers

When: Monday, June 26, 7:10pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston TV: ESPN (out-of-market only) / NESN (Boston) / FSSW (Texas) Radio: WEEI 93.7 (Boston) / 105.3 The Fan (Texas) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: Red Sox at -120 Pitching Matchup: Rick Porcello (4-10, 5.06 ERA) (BOS) vs Martin Perez (4-6, 4.70 ERA) (TEX) For the Rangers, starting pitcher Martin Perez returns from the disabled list (right thumb fracture) to make his first start since June 22. He did pick up wins in his last two starts before heading to the shelf, keeping his fastball away from the heart of the plate. Against Boston, though, he has a lofty 6.12 ERA in six starts (2-2). Mookie Betts (.444 lifetime average, 2 RBI) and Chris Young (.444, 1 HR, 1 RBI) have hit Perez especially well in the past. Rick Porcello already has 10 losses before the All-Star break and could get his 11th on Monday night. His sinker has been dropping more reliably over his last two starts, but that has not yet started to translate into victories. Porcello has a 4-2 career record pitching in Arlington, posting a 3.19 ERA. Adrian Beltre (.500, 1 HR, 2 RBI), Shin-Soo Choo (.348, 4 RBI), Mike Napoli (.375) and Rougned Odor (.667, 4 RBI) have all hit Porcello well in the past. I see this game turning into a real barnburner, which means that the Rangers bullpen has an excellent chance of getting their American League-leading 18th blown save of the year. I pick the Red Sox to win this one.

San Diego Padres at Cleveland Indians

When: Tuesday, June 5th, 2017. 7:10pm ET Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland TV: FSSD (San Diego) / SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland) Radio: XEMO 860 (San Diego) / WTAM 1100 (Cleveland) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: Indians at -315 Pitching Matchup: Trevor Cahill (3-2, 3.27 ERA) (SD) vs Corey Kluber (7-2, 3.02 ERA) (CLE) Corey Kluber continues to put up ace numbers — on Thursday in his last start, he struck out a dozen Texas Rangers in eight innings. That gave him a 4-0 record in June, with a 1.26 ERA over six starts. Opponents hit .150 against him over the month. The Padres have one of the least productive offenses in the National League, and that trend is unlikely to see any change with Kluber on the mound. The Padres start Trevor Cahill in this Independence Day matchup. He makes his first start since May 13 (shoulder). Before the injury, he had posted a nice ERA over seven starts. However, he is likely to show significant amounts of rust, as he only threw 5 ⅔ innings combined in a pair of rehab starts, so we could see the Padres’ bullpen early in this one. I see the Tribe winning this one and getting the fireworks started a lot earlier than the actual pyrotechnic display. The Indians are MLB betting favorites to win on Tuesday.

Toronto Blue Jays at N.Y. Yankees

When: Wednesday, July 5, 12:05 PM Where: Yankee Stadium, New York City TV:  MLBN (out-of-market only) / TVA Sports (Toronto) / (Yankees) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / WFAN 660 (Yankees) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Marco Estrada (4-6, 4.86 ERA) (TOR) vs Michael Pineda (8-4, 4.05 ERA) (NY) The Blue Jays are waiting for Marco Estrada to find the plate again. In his last three starts, he has walked four or more batters each, including seven free passes against Boston his last time out. In June he posted an unsightly 9.11 ERA — definitely a call for help. However, the Blue Jays are keeping him in the rotation as they head to The Bronx, where we’ll see how far Aaron Judge can hit one of those obligatory 3-0 fastballs right down Main Street. The Yankees send Michael Pineda to the hill. He shut down the still-red- hot Houston Astros, permitting just three runs (two earned) and seven hits over six innings. He did permit five runs over five innings in a loss to Toronto back on June 2, but with his recent success (and Estrada’s recent struggles) I see the Yankees winning on Wednesday.
