Winning SU MLB Betting Predictions for this Weekend’s Action

Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox

When: Friday, June 30th, 2017. 8:10pm ET Where: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois TV: FSSW (Texas) / CSN-C (Chicago) Radio: KFLC 1270 (Texas) /WLS 890 (Chicago) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: Rangers at -120 Pitching Matchup: Austin Bibens-Dirkx (3-0, 3.68 ERA) (TEX) vs Mike Pelfrey (3-6, 3.73 ERA) (CHI) The Texas Rangers come into Chicago having dropped three of four in Cleveland against the Indians, but they open on Friday night with a favorable matchup. Austin Bibens-Dirkx, their 32-year-old rookie, has been a pleasant surprise, and he pitched very solidly his last time out against the Yankees, going seven innings and permitting just a single run while scattering five hits. Bibens-Dirkx has made nine appearances this season, holding opponents to a combined .207 batting average against him.

Who Will Kick Off for Chicago?

On the other side, the White Sox start Mike Pelfrey. His ERA is about even with that of Bibens-Dirkx, but he has a hard time getting far enough into games to hand a lead to his bullpen. He has permitted no more than three runs in all but two of his appearances, but his control issues push his pitch count up high, making it hard for him to get through six. I see Texas working on Pelfrey and winning this game.

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates

When: Saturday, July 1st, 2017. 4:05pm ET Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania TV: NBCS BA (San Francisco) / ROOTPIT (Pittsburgh) Radio: KNBR 680  (San Francisco) / KDKA-FM 93.7 (Pittsburgh) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: Pirates are favored by TBA Pitching Matchup: Matt Moore (3-8, 6.04 ERA) (SF) vs Chad Kuhl (2-6, 5.58 ERA) (PIT) The hapless San Francisco Giants (30-51) are in PIttsburgh this weekend to take on the pIrates (37-42). While both of these pitchers have some unsightly numbers, Kuhl appears to be on an upward trend. He went into the sixth inning on Sunday for the first time since April, permitting four runs on eight hits and striking out six Cardinals. His ERA at home has been slightly worse than on the road (7.36 at home). The Pirates are the MLB betting favorites against the Giants on Saturday.

What’s Going on in San Francisco?

However, the Giants are in even more trouble. Matt Moore has posted an 8.85 ERA over his last four starts combined, and the signs are coming that manager Bruce Bochy might pull him from the rotation. Moore has had control issues, both with missing the plate and with leaving pitches over too much of the plate, and opposing teams have made him pay. I see the Pirates winning this by getting Moore out early and then winning the bullpen battle.

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds

When: Sunday, June 2nd, 2017. 1:10pm ET Where: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio TV: WGN (Chicago) / FS-O (Cincinnati) Radio: 670 The Score (Chicago) / WLW 700 (Cincinnati) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Jake Arrieta (7-6, 4.67 ERA) (CHI) vs Tim Adleman (5-4, 4.62 ERA) (CIN) Which Jake Arrieta will show up for the Cubs? Back on June 22, he pitched terrific ball against Miami, holding them to one run in seven solid innings. However, he didn’t make it out of the fifth inning against Washington, walking six. In 11 road starts this season, he has posted a 4-6 ERA with a 5.04 ERA.

Who Will Start for the Reds on Sunday?

On the other side of the diamond, Tim Adleman starts for the Reds. His ERA is similar to Arrieta’s, but his recent numbers have been better, as he has limited opponents to no more than three runs in six of his last seven starts. He faced Chicago back on April 21, also in Cinnati, limiting them to a pair of runs in six innings. I see Adleman outdueling Arrieta, especially given the former Cy Young winner’s struggles this season away from Wrigley Field. I see the Reds taking the finale of this National League Central matchup and sending the Cus away still fumbling around the .500 mark for the season.
