MLB World Series Betting Predictions: Yankees quiet, Rangers hiring

New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter has stepped down as the CEO of the Miami Marlins and has also gotten rid of his ownership share with the team, indicating that he and ownership no longer had the same philosophy for the team’s direction forward. As Major League Baseball seeks to find a way forward out of the ongoing labor stoppage, there are still ways to take advantage of potential imbalances in the current MLB betting Odds to win the World Series. Look at the odds list and our insights into a few of the teams.

Looking for an extra dark horse? Check out the Texas Rangers. They added starting pitcher Jon Gray, liberating him from the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field. Then they added Marcus Semien and Ryan Seager, handing out a half-billion dollars to those two, hopeful that they will sew up the middle infield and anchor the batting order for at least five more seasons. Yes, the Rangers are still in the midst of a rebuilding phase, and they still have a ton of youth. However, they wouldn’t be the first team to make a big move a year or two earlier than predicted.

The Boston Red Sox took part in a Hunter Renfroe-for-Jackie Bradley Jr trade before the lockout. The team did lose Eduardo Rodriguez from the starting rotation, which will hurt, but adding Rich Hill and James Paxton is an interesting solution, especially if Paxton can stay healthy. The Boston bats are still robust, even if Kyle Schwarber ends up leaving town. The Sox fought to a playoff position last year and could do it again.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the latest team to invest in Steven Matz, as he rebounded nicely last season – and the Cards inked him to a $44 million deal. He will mesh well with their rotation. The Cardinals also have a new manager, and they are the only threat to Milwaukee in the National League Central. So this is a team that could get interesting, particularly if they are buyers at the trade deadline.

The New York Yankees were curiously quiet before the lockout. They did re-sign Joely Rodriguez, and they cut Rougned Odor and Clint Frazier. However, they still don’t have a front-line shortstop, and they haven’t been chasing the big names still out there, like trevor Story and Carlos Correa. Instead, they’ve been sniffing defense-first shortstops like Andrelton Simmons and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Oh, and who else will start games after Gerrit Cole?

One more sleeper could be the San Diego Padres. They have a new manager in Bob Melvin, who won Manager of the Year three times while leading an Oakland team that, under his watch, almost always overperformed in comparison to what their payroll indicated that their win totals would be. The starting rotation has Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Mike Clevinger and Joe Musgrove and could soon have former Ranger Nick Martinez, who went to Japan and became a star. Remember, the Padres also have Manny Machado, so this is a team just waiting to catch fire and contend.
