There are great rivalries to be found in every single sport, but there are few that can match the intensity and downright hatred that comes when the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox go head to head. The history of this one goes way, way back, and the hostilities may even have become worse over the years. Both teams are looking to get back into the playoff picture this season, and they will meet for a 3-game MLB betting series in Boston to end the first half.
The Yankees have been a little vulnerable on the road through the first half of the season, and having to face a hot pitcher in Clay Buchholz could make this a tricky match-up that I don’t think thy will overcome.
New York Yankees vs. Boston MLB Game Preview:
Date/Time: Friday, July 19th, 7:10 PM Venue: Fenway Park, Boston, MA TV: WPIX, MLBN Radio: WFAN 660/101.9 FM Opening line: Boston -120 There were a lot of people that had the Boston Red Sox (41-45) written off a couple of weeks ago, and for very god reason. They had fallen so far out of contention in the AL East that it appeared they would be a total non-factor moving forward. They couldn’t score, were bleeding runs, and basically just looked like a team that had thrown in the towel. They have surprisingly found a way to start winning again, and have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games. More importantly, while they are still dead last in the division, they have cut the deficit down to 5 games, and have a chance to get even closer if they can find a way to win the series against the much reviled Yankees. Clay Buccholz (7-6, 3.27 ERA) will get the start for Boston on Friday as he looks to extend his winning streak to a very impressive 5 games.

The Yankees (45-39) are back in business atop the AL East, but to be fair, a good part of the reason that they are there is down to the struggles of the other teams in the division. The Red Sox are the only other team that looks capable of winning a game in the division right now, which is why a .500 record over the last 10 games has been enough for the Yankees to extend their lead to 2.5 games. Things have been looking a little better this week, though, as the Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Rays, and are on the brink of doing the same versus the A’s. A series win against the Red Sox would likely mean an extension of their lead at the top of the division. Michael Pineda (8-5, 3.79 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees as he tries to snap a 3-game winless streak.
