Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – March 5th Edition

Tuesday, March 5

Houston at Toronto (8:00pm ET, TNT)

Houston heads north of the border riding a five-game winning streak, with their most recent win coming in Boston over the Celtics on Sunday. James Harden put up 42 points for the Rockets before fouling out in the fourth quarter, nailing six shots from downtown, including a step-back three over Kyrie Irving. Eric Gordon made eight shots from behind the arc, scoring 32 points on the day. Houston held Boston to 48 percent shooting overall and 29 percent shooting from behind the arc. Next for the Rockets come the Toronto Raptors, who lost a disappointing game to Detroit in overtime on Sunday, falling in Detroit, 112-107. Kawhi Leonard was held out of the game for rest by Toronto, who could not control Blake Griffin, who had a 14-point first quarter to get things going for the Pistons. Toronto did get seven points from Kyle Lowry to start overtime, and the Raptors led by five with 2:22 left in the extra session, but the Pistons came back and the Raptors would not score again. Lowry had a huge game with 35 points, seven boards and five assists. Pascal Siakam added 21 points, and Marc Gasol scored 13. Can Toronto hold up to Houston’s attack? NBA Betting Prediction: Toronto 115, Houston 111

Boston at Golden State (10:30pm ET, TNT)

Boston is stumbling a bit at this point in the season, losers of five out of their last six. They had lost to Milwaukee, Chicago, Portland and Toronto before beating Washington, but then they lost by 11 to Houston on Sunday night. In that setback, the Celtics saw more clashing between Kyrie Irving and the team’s young core of Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Gordon Hayward’s return from injury has been less than spectacular, and he has really struggled since the All-Star break, going just 7 for 25 in five games since then. Marcus Morris has shot just 36 percent since the break and 21 percent from behind the arc since that time. Golden State is not the friendliest destination for teams who are struggling, even though the Warriors have won just six of ten. They followed up uncharacteristic losses in Orlando and Miami with a three-point win in Philadelphia on Saturday. Klay Thompson did sit the game out for Golden State (and Philadelphia was missing Joel Embiid (knee)). However, Stephen Curry had 28, Kevin Durant had 34 and DeMarcus Cousins had 25. With that depth, even if Thompson remains out, Golden State should have the weapons to win at home. NBA Betting Prediction: Golden State 124, Boston 116

Wednesday, March 6

Philadelphia at Chicago (8:00pm ET, ESPN)

The 76ers had picked up big wins in New Orleans and Oklahoma City before coming home and losing to Golden State on Saturday. Their biggest question mark right now is the health of center Joel Embiid, who has missed the last five games due to a sore knee. He has said he expects to come back this week — so check the latest injury updates before betting on this game. The team got a terrific game out of Mike Scott against Golden State in Embiid’s stead, and that could be enough against the Bulls, even if Embiid is out. Chicago had a gritty win in Memphis and then an historic win in Atlanta, as the teams combined for 329 points, before losing to Atlanta on the back end of a home-and-home. That historic game had gone to quadruple overtime, but up in Chicago things finished in regulation. Lauri Markkanen went just 6 for 21 but still led the Bulls with 19 points. Antonio Blakeney chipped in 17. NBA Betting Prediction: Philadelphia 118, Chicago 110
