The Boston Celtics (12-9) are on a bit of a high after completing a 5-game road trip with a 3-2 record. There is no tie for them to pat themselves on the back, though as they need to ensure that they do not lose that momentum on home court. Boston is just 6-4 at home this season, but they have won their last 3 at the Garden, albeit against teams that they should be able to take care of. The fact that they played some great defensive ball against a trio of admittedly bad teams is still something that should supply them with a nice boost of confidence as they head into a tougher stretch of games. The final 4 games of the road trip were very good indeed for Boston, as they scored close to 109 PPG and shot over 47% from the floor. Those are numbers that they are likely going to have to repeat if they hope to continue their good run of recent form.
The Chicago Bulls (11-7) are coming into this one on a 2-game losing skid, and they are developing a habit of fading down the stretch that could continue to hurt them if they don’t get it addressed. The Bulls have held decent leads in the 4th quarter in those last two games, only to give it up late. This development came as something of a shock, as they have been at their strongest in the 4th quarter for most of the season. If the Bulls want to be considered one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, they need to develop a killer instinct. This conference looks as though it is going to stay pretty tight all year, and continually losing games that should be won will have them on the outside looking in if they are not careful.
