What the NBA Odds Say about Cavs-Hawks Game 4

Written by on May 25, 2015

When LeBron James made the move back to Cleveland in the off-season, the Cavaliers’ NBA odds to win the Eastern Conference instantly increased. After their win in Game 3 versus the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron and company are now just one win away from heading to the Finals.

NBA Playoffs, Game 4 – Cleveland vs. Atlanta

The Cavaliers were made to work a little harder for their win in Game 3 after winning the first two games of the series in pretty comfortable fashion in Atlanta. It was a grittier performance on Sunday night, and one that ended with the Cavs taking it 114-111 in OT. Much of the credit for the performance in the series has to go to LeBron, especially since Kyrie Irving has now missed two straight games through injury. The status of Irving for Game 4 has yet to be determined, but as long as James continues to score at a 33 points per game pace, the Cavs may not even risk putting him back into the line-up until he is absolutely needed. LeBron had some problems of his own in Game 3, as he overcame some cramping to score 37 points and 13 assists, whilst also chipping in 18 rebounds. The Hawks had some problems of their own heading into Game 3 after learning that Kyle Korver was done for the season with an ankle injury sustained in Game 2. Those issues were compounded after Al Horford was tossed from the game for a flagrant foul, which essentially left the Hawks playing without two of their best scorers. That they were able to keep it so close is a sign of how good this team really is. Jeff Teague led the way for the Hawks, scoring 30 points in a losing effort. If Atlanta is going to get back into this series, they are going to have to start winning the rebound battle, and also find a way to limit the damage being delivered by LeBron James. The performance in Game 3 showed that the Hawks still have some life, but the loss may end up being the killer blow.

Atlanta Hawks
This always looked like a series that was Cleveland’s for the taking, although that was put in some doubt with the loss of Kyrie Irving. The Cavs will want to get this series done at home, which would allow Irving some time to rest and get healthy for the final. I thought Atlanta might have stolen one in Game 3, but I believe that loss has now doomed them to the dreaded sweep.
