Celtics at Mavericks Odds: Can Boston Close Out the Series?

Celtics at Mavericks Odds: Can Boston Close Out the Series?

Ready for NBA Finals Betting for Game 4? In the history of the NBA, 156 teams have taken 3–0 leads in best-of-seven playoff series. All 156 of them have gone on to win. In the NBA Finals, sweeps are somewhat rare, as this last series is supposed to represent the best from each conference.

Nine Finals sweeps have taken place in league history, most recently in 2018, when Golden State swept Cleveland. There have been 14 times when a team went ahead 3-0 in the Finals, most recently in 2023, when Denver won the first three games against Miami but needed five games to send the Heat home for the summer. The Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks easily in Game 1, while Games 2 and 3 have been close at the end.

Can the Celtics pull off the sweep, or will the Mavericks extract a bit of dignity from this series and send it back to Boston? Read on to get our NBA betting prediction.

Celtics Betting Lines +108

The Celtics have spent several seasons building a contender, while the Mavericks haven’t been elite since this season’s trade deadline. Boston has put together a roster that includes Jayosn Tatum and Jaylen Brown – but also Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and worker bees like Sam Hauser. Kristaps Porzingis gives the team elite rim defense, but Al Horford is good enough when Porzingis isn’t quite healthy. This is a team that feels the moment.

The Mavericks are still learning how to play together and how to win high-pressure games. Luka Doncic is only 25 years old and has made it to the conference finals twice in the last three seasons. His moments are still ahead of him as he learns how to deal with this level of pressure. Jason Kidd is also learning how to coach at this level of the playoffs; his roster adjustments have not been particularly good against Boston. If you like the Celtics, you see them taking advantage of the green experience of the Mavericks and taking the sweep.

Mavericks Betting Lines -132

Every time the Mavericks have abandoned their composure, they have come back with more maturity the next game. Luka Doncic committed four fouls in the fourth quarter of Game 3, including a dubious blocking call that fouled him out of the game with more than four minutes left in regulation, and his presence could have made the difference as the Mavericks pulled within three points several times in the last moments of the game. Doncic has been criticized for his defense and then bounced back with his guarding several times in these playoffs. If Doncic and Irving can stand tall, and a third player (perhaps P.J. Washington) can approach 20 points, the Mavericks can get enough offense to win.

There have been many stretches in these playoffs when the Mavericks have gone toe-to-toe with Boston and come out ahead, but there have been too many collapses. If Jason Kidd remembers that Tim Hardaway Jr (who had zero points and clanked five shots while posting a -16 plus/minus in Game 3) doesn’t need to be on the floor, and that either Dereck Lively II or Daniel Gafford should always be on the floor, then the Mavericks have a shot.

Boston Celtics vs Dallas Mavericks Final Score and Prediction

Dallas will have its raucous home crowd and will have its collective back against the wall. There is no way the Mavericks push this even to a Game 7, but their desperation and resolve should do enough to benefit from the bad habits that the Celtics sometimes show. I predict a final score of Dallas 108, Boston 103.
