The Brooklyn Nets are one of the hottest teams in the East right now, going a solid 8-2 in their last 10 games. It’s not really fair to pin all of that success on a single player, but you cannot overlook the impact that Brook Lopez has made coming down the stretch. Lopez spent a lot of time on the bench before the arrival of coach Lionel Hollins, and he has repaid the trust of his coach by putting up some stellar numbers in recent weeks. The nets were able to make it all the way into the 7th seed in the East on the back of a 6-game winning streak, but their hot run was halted by the Atlanta Hawks, which is the team they will have to face again on Wednesday night. They did bounce back with a solid win over Portland on Monday, and will have the home court edge in the return match with Atlanta.
There can be no denying the fantastic season that Atlanta has put together to this point, but you also can’t ignore the fact that they have not being playing their best basketball over the past few weeks. While the Hawks have remained very good on home court, they have floundered somewhat while taking to the road. They have in fact only won 1 of their last 5 road games, which is very much against the type of road play they were able to put together earlier in the season. No-one is hitting the panic button in Atlanta just yet, but how they perform over the final few games of the regular season may well have an impact on their state of mind once the postseason begins.
