The Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers finish playing out the string of the NBA “bubble” games at the end of the 2019-20 NBA regular season this week, and Wednesday pits them together as two teams that seem set in their postseason fate. Toronto trails Milwaukee by four games and leads Boston by 3 ½, so they are set in second place. Philadelphia is in sixth place, seven games ahead of Brooklyn — but just one game behind Indiana and two games behind Miami, so the 76ers could make some moves even at this late point if they can finish with a win or two. They have a hobbling Joel Embiid (ankle) and have lost Ben Simmons for the season, so they are definitely running on fumes at this point.

Why should you Bet on Toronto?
Toronto polished off the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, 114-106. In that game, the Bucks let Giannis Antetokounmpo rest, so while the Bucks had six different players score in double figures, led by 19 from Kyle Korver, they could not keep up with the Toronto attack. The Raptors led by five points after the first quarter and 14 points at the half, which proved too big a lead for the Bucks to come back from in the second half without their MVP on the floor.
Chris Boucher came off the bench to lead Toronto with 25 points and 11 rebounds, also dishing out a pair of assists. Matt Thomas added 22 more points off the bench, and along with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Paul Watson, the reserves had 62 of the Raptors’ 114 points. Norman Powell had 21 points, with Pascal Siakam (14) and Terence Davis (10) also hitting double figures. Center Marc Gasol did not score in 20 minutes but did lead the team with eight assists as the team played inside-out ball magnificently. If you like the Raptors, you see a team rounding into playoff form at just the right time.
Why should you Put your Money on the 76ers?
The Philadelphia 76ers led the Phoenix Suns by four points after the first quarter of their matchup yesterday, but then the Suns hung 40 on Philly in the second quarter and did not look back the rest of the way. The Suns are the hottest team in the NBA right now, pushing hard to make that play-in for the eighth slot in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, Philadelphia, even with the addition of Shake Milton to the starting lineup, continues to have a difficult time putting together solid offensive possessions without Embiid or Simmons.
Alec Burks led the Sixers with 23 points in just 28 minutes, and Raul Neto (22) provided some electricity off the bench. Mike Scott (17), Glenn Robinson III (15) and Furkan Korkmaz (12) also made it into double figures. Center Kyle O’Quinn almost made it a triple double, having nine points to go along with 10 boards and 11 assists, playing inside-out ball nicely — and filling in adequately for Embiid, although he does not have the scoring savvy to put up 30-point games like the 76ers’ starting center. If you like Philadelphia here, you see the Raptors taking their foot off the gas with the second seed already in hand.
Final Score and Prediction
When the “bubble” began, I saw Philadelphia as a team that could challenge Milwaukee atop the East. Since then, though, the loss of Simmons and Embiid has ravaged Philadelphia’s offense and defense more than the team has been able to compensate for. I love the 76ers’ effort, but they are just overmatched by the other contenders right now. I predict a final score of Toronto 121, Philadelphia 109.
