It’s tough to look at the record the Memphis Grizzlies have put together this season and imagine a team on the slide, but look a little closer and you can see that they might be in trouble. The Grizzlies have gone just 11-10 since the All-Star Break, which is not something you would expect to see from a team that was expect to be a serious threat to reach the Finals earlier in the season. Yes, they have taken time to rest some of their key players coming down the stretch, but they might well find out just how difficult it is to flip the power switch back on when needed. Further muddying the water for Memphis is the possibility that the Houston Rockets may overhaul them in second, which in turn could mean a first round date with the San Antonio Spurs. That is a team that no-one wants to face right now.
One of the toughest teams to figure out this season has been the Oklahoma City Thunder. To say that they came out of the gate slowly is completely understating how bad they were at the start of the season. They have somehow managed to turn things around in the face of awful injury news, including the loss of Kevin Durant for the remainder of the season, which includes the playoffs. OKC have a game and a half lead over Phoenix for the final playoff spot, but have lost 3 of their last 4. That said, the one win that they did have was over the Suns in a game that saw them charge back from what looked like an unassailable deficit.
