On Tuesday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be in San Antonio to take on the Spurs in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal. The Thunder brought the series level, 2-2, after a 111-97 win in Game 4. The Spurs actually led 27-17 after the first period and were still up by four going into the fourth period, but then the Thunder went on a 34-16 onslaught that finished the Spurs off, as they had no answer for Kevin Durant down the stretch. Why Should You Bet on Oklahoma City?

When Durant and Westbrook are at the top of their game, even the Warriors would have trouble locking down the Thunder. Durant went 10 for 13 in the second half, scoring 29 of his playoff high 41 points after halftime. He had 17 of those in the fourth quarter — which means he outscored San Antonio all by himself — as he went 6 for 6. He praised his teammates after the game for giving him easy baskets, but the truth was that only three of his 25 shots came uncontested, and he scored on six different Spur defenders. He was balanced out by Russell Westbrook (14 points, 15 assists), Dion Waiters (17 points) and Steven Adams (16 points, 11 boards) — and Adams is become a real factor on the inside in this series. That balance — and Durant’s dominance — mean that the Thunder know how to knock off the Spurs.

Why Should You Put Your Money on the Spurs?

Three different Spurs (Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge) had at least 20 points. The problems for the Spurs came from two factors: Durant simply refused to miss in the second half, and the Thunder dominated the offensive glass in the second half. It’s unlikely that Durant will keep being that hot in San Antonio, and the Spurs can work harder on the defensive glass to deny the Thunder second chance points. The Spurs did lead for the vast majority of the game, and if they can finish the fourth quarter on Tuesday, they will be in the driver’s seat up 3-2.

Expert Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Spurs to do a better job on the glass — and I don’t think that Durant will be that hot again. I’m predicting a 104-100 Spurs victory.
