In the last hours before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Clippers made moves to boost their depth in the frontcourt and the backcourt. They added center Mason Plumlee from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for point guard Reggie Jackson, and they added shooting guard Eric Gordon from Houston and point guard Bones Hyland from Denver in separate transactions. They sent two second-round picks to Denver for Hyland, and Gordon is coming in a three-team deal that sent Luke Kennard to Memphis and Danny Green to Houston, while the Clippers end up with three second-round picks. As we look ahead to the weekend, don’t miss two quality NBA betting picks for Saturday’s action.
NBA News: Top Betting Picks for February 11
L.A. Lakers at Golden State Warriors
When: Saturday, February 11, 2023
Where: Chase Center
Time: 8:30 PM ET
TV: ABC
Los Angeles (25-31) brought D’Angelo Russell back to town to join Anthony Davis and LeBron James and attempt to resuscitate the Lakers’ season. Russell Westbrook is now gone, which should shake up the offense. The Lakers have dropped three in a row, losing to New Orleans, Oklahoma City and most recently Milwaukee (on Thursday). LeBron James missed that game, resting his sore left foot and ankle. However, the Lakers built an 11-point lead during the first half before the Bucks woke up, and Giannis Antetokounmpo hung 23 on the Lakers after the intermission. Dennis Schroeder put up a solid 25 points and 12 assists for a nine-man Laker roster, as the new additions to the Lakers’ roster will join the team on Saturday.
Golden State (28-27) saw a two-game winning streak end in Portland on Wednesday night, as the Trail Blazers picked up a 125-122 win. The game was tied at 95 after the third period, and things went back and forth the rest of the way. The Warriors are still without Stephen Curry, but Jordan Poole stepped up to score 38, and Klay Thompson nailed seven three-pointers on the way to a 31-point night. The Warriors’ inability to get stops on defense hurt, as Damian Lillard had a triple-double. Portland also got a lot of fouls on penetration, going 31 of 32 from the free-throw line, while the Warriors only got 10 attempts (making nine), mostly because they relied on outside shooting. Warriors to win.
Dallas Mavericks at Sacramento Kings
When: Saturday, February 11, 2023
Where: Golden 1 Center
Time: 10:00 PM ET
TV: NBA TV / fuboTV
Dallas (30-26) picked up a surprise win in Utah after sending Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie to Brooklyn in exchange for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris, and they followed that up with a gritty six-point win in L.A. over the Clippers on Wednesday night. They play Sacramento on Friday night and then follow that up with a second game against the Kings on Saturday. The win over the Clippers was Irving’s debut in a Mavericks uniform, and he put up 24 points, keying an early rally that helped Dallas score 41 in the first quarter, and while the Clippers made it close in the second half, they never led. Luka Doncic remains out with a bruised heel, but Irving connected well with a young Dallas core.
Sacramento (31-23) bounced back from a two-game skid with a pair of wins in Houston on Monday and Wednesday. The first game was a 140-120 laugher, while the second game was a 130-128 nailbiter, as neither team showed much of an impulse to play defense. In the second win, it looked like Houston would win, but a late Rockets collapse opened the door for the Kings. De’Aaron Fox dropped 31 on Houston, including three free throws with 0.3 seconds left on the clock. Fox clanked a three-pointer in the last second of regulation, but the officials called a foul on Eric Gordon to send him to the line, turning a one-point deficit into the final two-point margin of victory. Fox also had a pair of baskets to bring the Kings within one point with 42.2 seconds left. Mavericks to win.
