Updated 2019 College Basketball Championship Odds – March 26th

We’ve gone from 68 teams vying for the NCAA men’s basketball championship all the way down to 16 in just a week. The tournament’s overall top seed, Duke, almost saw their tournament end in the first weekend, but they got the luck of the rim as UCF missed a put-back in the waning seconds that would have ended the Blue Devils’ season. North Carolina and Gonzaga both looked more impressive than Duke in the first two rounds. Purdue shocked a lot of observers when they got 42 points from Carsen Edwards in a dismantling of defending champion Villanova in the second round. LSU might be the shakiest team left, as they let Yale hang around way too long and then blew a big lead against Maryland, needing a last-second layup by Tremont Waters to advance. We have the latest 2019 college basketball championship betting odds for each of the teams in the Sweet 16 as well as our thoughts on several of the remaining contenders.

Oregon

They are the only double-digit seed remaining. They beat 5-seed Wisconsin in their opener and then routed UC-Irvine by 19 in the second round. Oregon used to rank much higher in the opinions of the national voters, as they started the year ranked #14 in the AP preseason polls. They did lose star player Bol Bol for the season, but they have straightened things out just in time, winning 10 in a row, both straight up and against the spread, and might be the scariest dark horse left. They face Virginia next — and Virginia struggled mightily against Gardner-Webb in their opener. Given the value that the Ducks offer, there are worse plays than this.

Duke

He doesn’t offer a lot of value for the bettor, and it took a lot of luck for them to knock off AAC team UCF. Now they have a tough road ahead of them that gets a lot harder than the Knights. Next comes Virginia Tech, the winner of LSU and Michigan State, and possible games against Gonzaga and North Carolina should they keep advancing. The Blue Devils’ moneyline has grown as a result. We saw that, even with the return of almighty Zion, there are a number of flaws for teams to exploit.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels lost at home to Virginia on February 11. Since then, the Tar Heels have won 10 of 11 straight up and covered eight times, losing in the ACC tournament semifinals against Duke — by one point. North Carolina toyed with Iona in the first half before winning by 15 and then throttled Washington by 22 in the second round. Behind Nassir Little, the Tar Heels can score with just about anyone, and as they showed against the Huskies, their defense is top-shelf as well. Given the current value for North Carolina, they represent a smart pick.

Final 2019 College Basketball Championship Betting Prediction

There is only one perfect bracket remaining in the NCAA’s Bracket Challenge game, and the player using the screen name “Center Road” has picked Gonzaga to win the whole thing. So far, this player has picked 48 games correctly, breaking the contest’s record of 39. Gonzaga beat Baylor in the second round behind 36 points, five blocks and five dunks from Brandon Clarke, who is also a ferocious rim defender. Next up for the Bulldogs is Florida State, who beat Gonzaga would love to get revenge against; the Seminoles eliminated Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 last year, winning by 15. But can Gonzaga get all the way to the championship? I think that the soft West Coast Conference schedule keeps Gonzaga from the preparation necessary to play contenders each round in the Big Dance — but so far, they are winning.
