Top College Basketball Betting Picks for the Week – February 26th

Monday, February 26

Texas Tech at West Virginia (9:00pm ET, ESPN2)

The Lubbock miracle seems to be losing steam down the stretch, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders have dropped three straight Big 12 games, losing by two at Baylor and by eight at Oklahoma State, followed by a two-point loss at home to Kansas. Now the Red Raiders head to Morgantown to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. Texas Tech is still in second place in the Big 12, two games behind Kansas, and it is that lingering toe injury to leading scorer Keenan Evans (who has not scored more than single digits in any of the three games since his injury) that has Tech slumping right now. They visit a West Virginia team that has won two straight since a frustrating loss at Kansas, beating Baylor on the road and then dominating Iowa State at home. In that 85-70 win over the Cyclones, Jevon Carter became the first major-conference college basketball player to put up over 1,500 points, 500 boards, 500 assists and 300 assists in his career. They had to come back from an early deficit but won the battle of the boards by 20 — a battle that West Virginia often loses. Can the Mountaineers hold serve against the Red Raiders, who have the speed to break the West Virginia press? NCAA Basketball Betting Prediction: Texas Tech 90, West Virginia 86

Auburn at Arkansas (9:00pm ET, ESPN SEC Network)

The Auburn Tigers have dropped two of their last three, losing at unranked South Carolina and unranked Florida with a 19-point home win over Alabama in between. They head to Arkansas for the first of their last two regular-season games. Jared Harper and Bryce Brown had some off-balance looks from downtown in the game’s last minute, but they could not fight off Florida, led by KeVaughn Allen’s 24 points. Auburn travels to face Arkansas, who has beaten three ranked opponents at home so far this season, most recently then-#21 Texas A&M, whom they whipped by a 94-75 score. The Razorbacks lost at home to Kentucky but then went to Alabama and won by three. Daryl Macon led the way with 17 points and had a pair of clutch free throws in the last minute to seal the win. Auburn has a high-flying offensive attack and will look to outscore the Razorbacks, but that approach doesn’t always work in Fayetteville. NCAA Basketball Betting Prediction: Auburn 88, Arkansas 86

Providence at Xavier (6:30pm ET, FS1)

The unranked Friars have pulled off some impressive wins in Big East play this year, including a home win over Villanova, a season sweep of Georgetown and a two-point win at Marquette. Now they look to add to their tournament resume when they take on Xavier in Cincinnati on Wednesday. Against Georgetown on Saturday, Providence got five three-balls from Rodney Bullock, counting for 15 of his 19 points, who also led the Friars with eight rebounds. Xavier took a 16-point home shellacking from Villanova but rebounded nicely with a 12-point win at Georgetown. The Musketeers have just three Big East losses this year — two to Villanova and the other at Providence. Now that Xavier has been ranked #3, it appears that the pollsters see Xavier as a team that win it all. They got 21 points and seven boards from Naji Marshall in their win over Georgetown — can they deliver another statement with revenge over Providence? NCAA Basketball Betting Prediction: Xavier 88, Providence 77
