NCAA Football Week 2 Over/Under Picks

NCAA Football Week 2 Over/Under Picks

Written by on September 5, 2018

Placing some of your sports betting money on the point totals in a game can add intrigue down the stretch, as the teams approach the established combined score down the stretch and the last scoring drive threatens to push the score to the other side of the over/under total. Even when the point spread is no longer in play, looking at the progress toward this total can make even the most noncompetitive game a nailbiter. We’ve picked some primo NCAA football Week 2 betting matchups in which we feel confident that the total does not reflect the direction the game will take — which means that you have a chance to make some money.

2018 NCAA Football Week 2 Over/Under Picks

Friday, September 7

TCU at SMU, 8:00pm ET, ESPN (58.5)

SMU lost by a 46-23 score at North Texas a week ago, and TCU rolled to a 55-7 win over Southern. Both of those point totals would go over the total for their Week 2 matchup, but what we also saw was a 23-point fourth quarter by SMU, which is much less likely to happen against the TCU defense. I don’t see TCU scoring quite as easily against SMU as they did against Southern, and I don’t see SMU getting that many garbage points against the Horned Frogs. I’m going with the under here.

Saturday, September 8

Western Michigan at Michigan, 12:00pm ET, FS1 (57)

Western Michigan put up 42 points on Syracuse in their season opener — and they gave up 55 in a barnburner of a loss. Michigan only scored 17 points against Notre Dame in their opener — but the Irish have a much better defense than what Western Michigan will bring. The defensive issues that Michigan has could let the Broncos get into the 20s or 30s — but I don’t see Michigan having any problem scoring this week. With these two offenses rolling, I’m taking the over here.

Georgia Tech at South Florida, 12:30pm ET, ACC ESPN Network (63)

Georgia Tech rolled to a 41-0 win over Alcorn State in their opener, while South Florida upended San Jose State by a 42-22 score to start their season. Georgia Tech has an option offense that is difficult for opposing defenses to break down, but South Florida comes in having to run their offense without talented quarterback Quinton Flowers. Neither team is known for a particularly sturdy defense, and while I like the Bulls to win, I think South Florida will have to hold on late in a track meet. I”m going with the over here.

UCLA at Oklahoma, 1:00pm ET, FOX (64)

UCLA lost at home to Cincinnati, of all teams, in Week 1, by a score of 26-17. If the Bruins could only hang 17 on a Group of Five school, it’s hard to imagine them breaking single digits against the Oklahoma Sooners, particularly on the road. Oklahoma did hang 63 points on Florida Atlantic in their opener, but I’m not sure they get quite that many points against a Pac-12 school. Even so, the Bruins don’t have much on defense to stop Oklahoma, so I see this game going over.

Georgia at South Carolina, 3:30pm ET, CBS (56.5)

When these two teams tangled in Athens last year, the Bulldogs (ranked second in the nation at the time) won by a 24-10 score. The Gamecocks have a physical defense and a grinding offense that pulls opponents down to their rhythm, and Georgia isn’t a lightning-strike offense either. Jake Fromm will be better at quarterback for Georgia than he won last year, but I see this SEC East rivalry game being just as bruising as last year’s was — and with just as slow a scoring pace. Give me the under on this one.
