Alabama vs LSU NCAA Football Week 10 Odds & Pick

Written by on November 2, 2018

The Alabama Crimson Tide may finally face a real test on Saturday when they head to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers. Two weeks ago, Georgia found themselves in the same stadium and ended up taking a whipping, which is why LSU is in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings right now while the Bulldogs are not. LSU has an outstanding defense, holding Mississippi State to three points and just 59 yards of passing offense. However, Alabama has shown outstanding defense this year as well, even though it is their offense that has gotten all the press. LSU averages just 5.33 yards per play, dead last in the SEC, and that number could doom them. Let’s take a look at the NCAAF odds and our sports betting thoughts about what is sure to be an SEC West classic matchup between Alabama vs LSU.

Why should you bet on the Crimson Tide?

Alabama enters this game coming off the rest of a bye week after their 58-21 shellacking of Tennessee two weeks ago. Of course, given how many games in which the starters have basically rested for the second half, this is a team with much more gas in the tank than just about all of their competition at this point of the season anyway. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa continues to wow observers with 2,066 yards of passing and 25 touchdown passes — again, in a season when he sits for much of the second half of games. Jerry Jeudy leads the team with 777 receiving yards, but there are three other players with 400 yards or more of receiving offense. The Tide score 54.1 points per game, so LSU had better be ready to play defense and do some scoring of their own. Alabama has covered the spread in 15 of their last 22 road games and in 13 of their last 19 road games against a team with a winning record at home. They have also covered in four of the last five meetings with LSU and in nine of their last 12 meetings in Baton Rouge. So even though Tiger Stadium has a reputation as an extremely difficult place to win, but the Tide has solved the Tigers each time, and betting against Alabama does not seem to pay off.

Why should you put your money on the Tigers?

LSU has already delivered three statement wins in SEC play this year, knocking off then-#2 Georgia at home, winning at Auburn and then demolishing Mississippi State. The question has to do with quarterback Joe Burrow, who has been adequate as a “bus driver,” not turning the ball over and keeping the offense moving enough to get some wins. However, he has 19 fewer touchdown passes than Tagovailoa does, and the Tigers’ offense just moves at a much more plodding rate than their Alabama counterparts. That could help LSU chew up clock and keep the Alabama offense off the field, but it could also mean that LSU falls behind and can’t catch up. LSU has covered the spread in 11 of their last 15 games and in seven of their last 10 games at home. The “under” has also come in right in 10 of the Tigers’ last 12 games coming in off the bye week. The fact that LSU also had their bye week last week somewhat negates any rest advantage that Alabama might have, but the simple fact is that LSU will have to push Burrow to go way out of his comfort zone — and succeed while doing it — to have a chance of covering, let alone winning.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction for Alabama vs LSU

Alabama looks just as hungry as they were last year — and even better on offense. That means that it will be quite difficult for anyone to keep up with them. LSU may have the best defense in the nation, but the high-powered Tide attack should be able to move through it. I predict a final score of Alabama 27, LSU 9.
