Analyzing 2017 College Football Season Win Totals

It might seem like we’re still months away from football, but the truth is that Labor Day is six weeks away — which means that the opening weekend of college football season will be on us before we know it. And with that in mind, we’ve got the latest 2017 College Football betting odds for the season win totals. The sports books have already put up some win totals for each of the 130 FBS teams, which means it’s time to take a look at them and make some suggestions as to your futures picks. You can make some real money in your sports betting account by taking advantage of some picks that rely more on reputation than on reality.

Analyzing 2017 College Football Season Win Totals

Southern Methodist: 5 (Over +105, Under -125)

SMU starts with four of their first six games at home, and those home opponents include Stephen F. Austin, North Texas and Arkansas State in non-conference games in which the Mustangs should be favored each time. The fourth opponent, Connecticut, sat in the basement of the American Athletic Conference’s East Division last year. After the bye week, things do get a little tougher, with games at Navy and Memphis, but they also have winnable games at homeagainst Tulsa, UCF and Tulane — in addition to a matchup at Cincinnati that is definitely reasonable. So with eight winnable games, I’m definitely taking the over here.

Miami: 9 (Over -120, Under EVEN)

Miami won nine games last year — but they had Brad Kaaya at quarterback. His graduation leaves a hole in the offense, but the Hurricanes return Mark Walton at tailback and also bring back eight starters on defense. Thanks to a friendly ACC schedule, Miami avoids Louisville and Clemson, and they get to take on Virginia Tech at home instead of going up to Blacksburg, where a lot of quality teams suffer upsets. They do have to travel to Florida State, but I definitely like Miami’s chances to earn that tenth win and go over.

Wisconsin: 10 ½ (Over -110, Under -110)

When you have an ironclad defense and a run-first offense, it’s more about the system than individual players. Wisconsin also has the advantage of playing in the Big Ten West this season, and their schedule has them playing Michigan at home — and missing out on Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State altogether. Their road games in conference play (Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota) are not the cream of the Big Ten. That road nonconference game at BYU could be the difference, but I like the Badgers to roll to 11 wins in the regular season and show up in that conference title game.

Washington State: 7 (Over -130, Under +110)

In 2016, Washington State opened with two losses in non-conference play — but then ran off eight wins in a row, including a road shellacking of Stanford and a home pasting of Oregon, before losing their last two games against Colorado at Washington, finishing 8-4. Their head coach, Mike Leach, has specialized in hair-on- fire offenses throughout his career, and Washington State is turning out no differently. They open with five straight home games, all of which are winnable with the possible exception of USC on September 29, a Friday night national broadcast which will tell us a lot about USC signal-caller Sam Darnold and whether Washington State is a contender. They do have dates at Oregon and at home against Stanford in which both opponents will be looking for revenge — but will it matter? I like Leach’s system and see them picking up eight more wins again this season — if not more.

LSU: 9 (Over EVEN, Under -120)

Let’s see. Leonard Fournette is gone. There’s a new head coach in town, but the real question is whether the Tigers can pass well enough to get opponents to start putting eight and nine men in the box to stop the run. The Tigers’ schedule has dates at Florida, at Ole Miss, at Alabama and at Tennessee — a young program that looks to take their next step in the SEC this year. They also have a neutral-site game against BYU in Houston to start the season, and the Cougars are always a wild card. I’m taking the under here with LSU, given how awful that SEC West grist mill becomes.

Final 2017 College Football Season Prediction

It;s going to be a very interesting season. Many of the current betting odds favor some particular teams to have a good season, but some others, even champions, aren’t the current favorites. Of course, there has been many changes within the teams and might even keep on happening from hear ’til game time.
