Baylor at Oklahoma Week 11 Expert Pick

Baylor at Oklahoma Week 11 Expert Pick

A heralded matchup from a year ago, this tilt between Baylor and Oklahoma is likely to be a lot less competitive than the 2015 edition. In the wake of the firing of Baylor coach Art Briles and the departure of quarterback Jarrett Stidham and much of the incoming Baylor recruiting class, the Bears have a dismal season facing them. If you can get a close line on this one, I would go heavy on Oklahoma. Why should you bet on Oklahoma?

Quarterback Baker Mayfield returns for his senior season and looks to build on a record that already brought him into the Heisman conversation last year. Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon are an outstanding pair at tailback. The offensive line might be the best in the Big 12. Depiste losing Sterling Shepard, Geno Lewis (transferring from Penn State) and Dede Westbrook should make a solid duo to catch Mayfield’s passes. On the defensive side, Charles Walker and Ogbinnia Okoronkwo key the front, while Steven Parker is one of the best safeties in the Big 12. The linebacking corps lost Dominique Alexander, but they still have Jordan Evans and depth and speed at that position.

Why should you put your money on the Bears?

The Bears are expected to continue running their high-octane offense. While Briles is gone in favor of former Wake Forest Jim Grobe, Baylor kept Briles’ assistants for some reason, which means that the schemes should remain fairly constant with Grobe as more of a caretaker than anything else. K.D. Cannon returns at wide receiver, and even with Stidham gone, they do have Seth Russell, who has a strong arm. They also have a solid backfield and a strong line. But depth will be an issue with a recruiting class that has basically vanished.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Oklahoma to take it to the Bears and prevail in a 41-17 victory. After falling in some early matchups, I don’t see Baylor playing with their trademark energy.
