Dave Aranda enters his third season at the helm of the Baylor Bears having posted a 14-9 career record, including bowl games. The 2021 campaign was a success, with a 12-2 record (8-2 Big 12) and a conference championship, along with a 21-7 win over Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. The 2020 season was supposed to feature rebuilding, and it did, but the 12-2 record last year was the first 12-win season in the history of the Baylor program. Their losses came to TCU and Oklahoma State during the regular season, but they beat Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship. NCAA News: Baylor Football 2022 Win Total
Last year, Baylor’s non-conference schedule was mostly unimpressive, with a trip to Texas State and a visit from Texas Southern. BYU came for Homecoming, which involved a bit of a risk, but the Bears ended up winning by 14. Let’s break down the 2022 slate.
Saturday, September 3: vs UAlbany Great Danes (7:00 pm ET, ESPN+)
Cupcake City against an FCS foe. 1-0.
Saturday, September 10: at BYU Cougars (10:15 pm ET)
The home-and-home series heads to Utah this time around. The Bears might be able to pull this off at McLane, but I’m not sure they can pull it off on the road. 1-1.
Saturday, September 17: vs Texas State Bobcats (12:00 pm ET, FS1)
The Bobcats will not be able to challenge the Bears to the point of an upset, and I expect the Bears to work out some frustrations after last week’s loss. 2-1.
Saturday, September 24: at Iowa State Cyclones (TBA)
Ames is a difficult road destination for Big 12 teams; many unbeaten season dreams have come to an end here. I think Baylor pulls off the road win, but I wouldn’t take them to cover unless the spread was less than a field goal. 3-1.
Saturday, October 1: vs Oklahoma State Cowboys (TBA)
The Cowboys will be looking for redemption after losing in the Big 12 Championship, and but with this game down in Waco, the Bears should be able to win. 4-1.

Thursday, October 13: at West Virginia Mountaineers (7:00 pm ET, FS1)
This is a road trip to a tough environment on a short week. The Bears’ offense will struggle against a new-look defense, and the Mountaineers should pull away. 4-2.
Saturday, October 22: vs Kansas Jayhawks (TBA)
How is Kansas a Power Five college football team again? 5-2.
Saturday, October 29: at Texas Tech Red Raiders (TBA)
Lubbock is another dangerous road destination in the Big 12, but the Red Raiders’ dreadful defense will just give up too much to Baylor. 6-2.
Saturday, November 5: at Oklahoma Sooners (TBA)
Brent Venables should have the Sooners playing at an elite level (at least by Big 12 standards) with his stingy defensive philosophy that served him so well at Clemson. 6-3.
Saturday, November 12: vs Kansas State Wildcats (TBA)
The Wildcats are a spirited team, but they’re not ready to beat Baylor. 7-3.
Saturday, November 19: vs TCU Horned Frogs (TBA)
TCU now has Sonny Dykes as their new head coach, and if his time at Cal and SMU are any indicator, November is the month when everyone has figured him out. 8-3.
Friday, November 25: at Texas Longhorns (Time TBA / ABC or ESPN)
Texas is an elite program ready for life in the Big 12, right? 8-4.
Even if Baylor beats Texas, that puts them at 9-3, which means that this win-loss total is balanced, making this a tough pick. I am more likely to bet on several of Baylor’s games this season than I am to pick one side of this total. If you want my prediction, I say take the under, but there are many more picks that I feel more confident making.
