College Football Betting Guide for Week 12

College Football Betting Guide for Week 12

With the SEC media days coming up, there are some questions about the top conference in college football. Many sports betting experts have the Georgia Bulldogs favored to win the SEC two years in a row – and to win three straight national titles. Given that Georgia has never been the undisputed SEC champion in football in back-to-back years, this is an interesting prediction; given the fact that the team will have a new offensive coordinator and a new quarterback – and that the defense won’t have Kelee Ringo or Jalen Carter, will they be able to hang with an angry Alabama in a possible SEC Championship matchup? Will they be able to get by Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida in the SEC East? Let’s look at some matchups in Week 12 that should have some interest in conference races or from a college football wagering perspective.

NCAA Betting News: College Football Week 12 Betting Guide

Colorado Buffaloes at Washington State Cougars

When: Friday, November 17 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Martin Stadium, Pullman, WA
TV / Streaming: FS1

Given the dramatic approach that Deion Sanders brought to retooling the Colorado roster before his first season as head coach, we will either be hearing that he brought a genius approach to coaching the Pac-12 – or the team will be flatlining by Week 12. If Colorado is at or above .500 at this point, that will already be a massive improvement over 2022, and a trip to Washington State could be huge in terms of securing bowl eligibility. Traveling to play on a Friday night gives the Buffaloes a national television broadcast.

The Buffaloes will face a Washington State team that has Cameron Ward back in his second season at quarterback, but the offensive line in front of him is not highly ranked. The defense also had some holes at linebacker and in the defensive backfield last season, areas that the transfer portal may not have completely addressed. Ron Stone Jr and Brennan Jackson are elite edge rushers, but blitzing doesn’t help much if the opposing quarterback has open targets streaking down the field. I’m buying with Colorado this season after seeing Coach Prime excel at Jackson State. Colorado to cover.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

When: Saturday, November 18 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, IN
TV / Streaming: NBC

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson has to get quarterback Mitch Griffis ready to move into a starting role, and he has to do it in a hurry, as the Wake Forest defense permitted 28.3 points per game in 2022. The wide receiving group is one of the best in the conference, but it’s hard to outscore an elite defense. The Demon Deacons will face their former quarterback in this game, as Sam Hartman, the Wake Forest starter after Week 2 last year, went to South Bend through the transfer portal. He knows the Wake Forest defense – but the Wake Forest defense also knows him.

Hartman now gets to play behind one of the nation’s top O-lines and in front of a talented group of tailbacks. The wide receiving group is still a work in progress, and the team has to find a replacement for tight end Michael Mayer. The off-season created some holes at safety and defensive end, so Marcus Freeman has some problems to solve in his second season as head coach. With Clemson, Ohio State and USC as the top three games on the schedule in terms of opponents that the Irish must beat to get to the CFP, Notre Dame must not overlook Wake Forest here. Notre Dame to win and cover.

UCLA Bruins at USC Trojans

When: Saturday, November 18 at TBA
Where: Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, IN
TV / Streaming: TBA

UCLA will now have Dante Moore at quarterback and Carson Steele at tailback, to replace Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Zach Charbonnet. It will be interesting to see if Moore can turn a five-star pedigree into an impressive season as a true freshman. The Bruins’ defense permitted 29 points per contest in 2022, and if that number doesn’t decrease, there will be a lot of pressure to put up points may make Moore’s introduction into Division I football more of a gauntlet.

The Bruins visit USC for the last time as Pac-12 opponents, as both are headed to the Big Ten in 2024. USC played Utah in the Pac-12 title game last year, losing to the Utes for the second time in two meetings in 2022. Caleb Williams returns at quarterback, looking to become the first player since Archie Griffin to win two Heisman Trophies and to guide the Trojans to the national championship. The defense is the real issue for this team, but lineman Bear Alexander and linebacker Mason Cobb came through the transfer portal and should help. Will it be enough? USC to cover.
