Why should you bet on the Sooners?

Baker Mayfield returned for his senior year to lead the Oklahoma offense, and he looked brilliant against the Miners. He went 19 for 20 for 329 yards and three scores before heading to the bench in favor of the reserves. He threw 40 touchdowns a year ago (with just eight picks) and looks headed in that direction once again. Tight end Mark Andrews was Mayfield’s favorite target, hauling in seven passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. Abdul Adams looked solid in the backfield, averaging more than seven yards a carry. The Sooner defense will be tested by the Buckeyes, but they did what they had to this week to dominate an inferior Miner attack. Texas-El Paso only posted 11 first downs and gained just 167 yards on the afternoon. However, J.T. Barrett will pose a much bigger threat against that Oklahoma defense than the Miners did. The key will come up front — can the line both contain and pursue Barrett? Or will he have time to sit back there and pick apart that Sooner secondary all night? Are the Sooners a safe bet in the College Football Odds against Ohio State?

Why should you put your money on the Buckeyes?

There were a lot of nervous Ohio State fans through much of the first three quarters in the opener at Indiana. J.K. Dobbins made a name for himself, as the freshman galloped for 181 yards on 29 carries — a school record for a true freshman’s rushing debut. Barrett went 20 for 35 for 304 yards and three scores. Paris Campbell caught six passes for 136 yards. For those who were wondering how well Ohio State would be able to move the ball, things were a little nerve-wracking before halftime, as Indiana’s grinding approach kept the game close. However, patience on the Ohio State side of the ball paid off, as the Hoosier secondary wore down and Barrett had a lot of open targets down the field in the second half. The Ohio State defense did the job against Indiana, particularly late as Ohio State pulled away. They forced a pair of interceptions and produced five quarterback sacks — two from senior defensive end Tyquan Lewis. Now, the Buckeyes will have to amp up their pass rush to keep Mayfield from picking them apart — and the Sooners come into this game with plenty of motivation after taking that ugly beating in front of their home crowd, a loss that essentially eliminated the Sooners from real consideration for the College Football Playoff.

Expert College Football Odds Pick and Final Score Prediction

Oklahoma’s offense looked terrific against Texas-El Paso — they definitely got off to the races more quickly than Ohio State did against Indiana. The quarterback matchup of Mayfield and Barrett may be the best that we see in all of college football this coming weekend. The key difference in this game for me is the fact that Ohio State’s defense is more trustworthy than Oklahoma’s — and I just see the Sooners giving up some key scores late as the Buckeyes escape with a win. I predict a final score of Ohio State 34, Oklahoma 24.
