Are you getting ready for the college football betting season? Ready or not, we’re about five weeks away from the first games of the 2017 season. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few predictions about big events that you can expect to see happen in the coming months. Here’s a look at our five top College Football betting predictions for the 2017 season.

Five Bold College Football Betting Predictions for the 2017 Season

USC Won’t Win the Pac-12 South

Sam Darnold might be the best quarterback in the Pac-12 — and even the nation — this coming season. However, his emergence doesn’t mean that the Trojans (who haven’t won the Pac-12 since the Pete Carroll era) will have what it takes to get past the rest of the South and make it to the title game. My top reason for skepticism with regard to the Trojans is that defense of theirs. Sure, they made a furious rally and knocked off Penn State in the Rose Bowl last year. But they still gave up 49 points in that game. Utah is always dangerous, and Colorado showed some steel last year. There’s also that rivalry game with UCLA. Someone will knock off the Trojans and keep them out of that championship tilt.

Justin Jackson Will Lead the Nation in Rushing

That’s right — the Big Ten will produce the nation’s rushing leader. But Justin Jackson doesn’t go to Ohio State, Michigan or Wisconsin — he goes to Northwestern. He led the Big Ten last year, putting up 117 yards per game for 1,524 yard on the season. The most impressive part of that number is that about 1,000 of those yards came after contact. He also has more combined catches and carries than any other player in any of the Power Five conferences. He carried the ball 298 times in 2016, more than any other returning running back in all of college football.

The ACC won’t have a team in the College Football Playoff

Alabama will win the SEC (again). Ohio State or Wisconsin will win the Big Ten and go undefeated (or have one loss and get in anyway). Washington will win the Pac-12 and take the third spot.

Who does that leave?

I see Oklahoma State finally getting by their in-state rival, who will be in a year of transition after the retirement of head coach Bob Stoops, and taking that fourth playoff spot. That means that Florida State and Clemson will be on the outside looking in. I see them both finishing with two losses, which means that whichever one wins the conference will still not qualify for the semifinals. Is Texas A&M a safe College Football betting pick for the 2017 season?

Texas A&M will finish in last place in the SEC West

Arkansas is still up and coming — looking to turn their super-fast offense into a juggernaut in the conference. LSU looks to add a passing dimension to a run-heavy game that ultimately succumbed to an inability to throw the ball down the field. Alabama — are you kidding? They’ve reloaded and want the playoffs again. Ole Miss and Mississippi State have some challenges as they look to replace outstanding quarterbacks — and the Bulldogs failed to do so when Dak Prescott went to the NFL, while the Rebels now have to replace Chad Kelly.

But what has Texas A&M done?

That defense lost some key starters to the NFL, and their offense was never all that exciting. The players just might be tired of listening to Kevin Sumlin — and the team could slide hard.

West Virginia will push hard in the Big 12

Yes, the Mountaineers (10-3 last year) lost some key pieces, but transfer quarterback Will Grier comes from Florida and could end up on the All-Big 12 squad. He has an offensive line in front of him that has two starters coming back, a deep backfield and a pair of talented receivers in David Sills and Ka’Raun White. They still have to solve some problems on defense, but they do have Dravon Askew-Henry returning at safety, and they have Corey Winfield transferring in from Syracuse at corner. They should be able to get to eight or nine wins — but if they can get to 10 or 11, they’ll have the bigger powers down south worried.
