Florida State Seminoles Early Betting Analysis, Schedule 2024

Florida State Seminoles Early Betting Analysis, Schedule 2024

The Florida State Seminoles had a perfect regular-season record and won the ACC Championship last year.

Seminoles were down to their third-string quarterback for that conference championship, though, and so the College Football Playoff committee decided to leave the Seminoles out of the national semifinals.

Their argument was that the Seminoles would likely not be competitive with a third-string quarterback, which was inconsistent with positions they had taken on such schools as Alabama, who were given a playoff spot despite significant injuries in the past.

Florida met the Georgia Bulldogs in the Capital One Orange Bowl and were dealt a 63-3 whipping as the Bulldogs found the end zone on nine straight drives and stacked up 670 yards of total offense.

Georgia Bulldogs were motivated by their own snub from the CFP committee, which chose to drop them all the way from #1 to #6 in the rankings after Georgia lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Expect the Seminoles to enter 2024 with all kinds of motivation. Let’s look at their schedule as well as thoughts about the team that should help you make sports betting decisions this fall.

Offensive Preview

The Seminoles lost Jordan Travis, one of the top quarterbacks in the storied history of Florida State football. Their top tailback (Trey Benson), top two wide receivers (Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman), and their top tight end (Jaheim Bell) have all left.

They did get quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei as a graduate transfer from Oregon State, as the onetime Clemson phenom has bounced around a bit. He does have a cannon arm and has won games at a high level, so look for the Seminoles to include a lot of “go” routes.

O-line is seasoned, with 190 combined starts in FBS action and 123 at Florida State. We’ll see if tackle Robert Scott Jr and center Maurice Smith have recovered fully from injuries.

Malik Benson (Alabama) and Jalen Brown (LSU) have transferred in at wide receiver, and they should lead a group that also includes Kentron Poitier, Hykeem Williams and Ja’Khi Douglas. The tailback group has talented, as has been noted lacks seasoning at this point.

Defensive Preview

Just like the offense, the defense has a number of holes to fill; in 2023, they were the only defense in the nation to allow fewer completions than incompletion.

D.J. Lundy, Joshua Farmer, Patrick Payton and Shyheim Brown are important contributors at the top of a depth chart in flux.

Marvin Jones Jr (Georgia), Sione Lolohea (Oregon State), Earl Little Jr (Alabama), and Tomiwa Durojaiye (West Virginia) have all transferred in and should contribute. The defense will need to hold things steady while the offense gels.

Special Teams Preview

Jaylin Lucas was an All-American returner last year at Indiana and has transferred in to join the Seminoles attack.

Australian Alex Mastromanno returns at punter, and redshirt senior Ryan Fitzgerald is the returning placekicker. With those three, special teams will be an area of strength again this season.

Coaching Preview

Along with Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Mike Norvell is one of the top coaches in the ACC.

In facts, given Swinney’s reluctance to rely heavily on the transfer portal and his conservative ways on offense, Norvell may move by him this year.

Norvell started with an 8-13 record in his first two seasons in Tallahassee, as has been noted his last two seasons have yielded a 23-4 mark. At his previous stop (Memphis), he posted a 38-15 record.
