Florida vs LSU 2019 College Football Week 7 Lines & Prediction

Written by on October 8, 2019

Two of the top teams in football square off when SEC powerhouses Florida and LSU meet in Baton Rouge on Saturday night. The teams have played 65 times, dating back to 1937, and Florida has won 33, with 29 going to LSU and three other games ending in ties. Florida won at home when the teams met last year, 27-19. LSU is 5-0, having scored 42 or more points in each game (including 131 combined points against Northwestern State and Vanderbilt). Florida is one of just three FBS teams in the nation with 6-0 records (along with Ohio State and SMU). The Gators come in having beaten then-#7 Auburn at home, 24-13, last week, despite having to resort to a third-string quarterback at times. Can LSU ruin Florida’s perfect season and keep their own going? Or are the Gators too strong to be denied? Don’t miss our sports betting preview of this classic SEC showdown.

Florida vs LSU 2019 College Football Week 7 Lines & Prediction

When: Saturday, October 12, 2019, 8:00 pm ET Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA TV: ESPN Radio: Gator IMG Sports Network / LSU Tiger Sports Network Live Stream: ESPN+ College Football Week 7 Odds: LSU -13.5

Why should you bet on the Gators?

Florida was the first team to keep Auburn’s offense, led by freshman quarterback Bo Nix, from taking over a game. Auburn committed four turnovers on the day and only gained 269 total yards of offense, possessing the ball for less than 27 minutes. However LSU’s offense is even more high-powered than Auburn’s, thanks to the terrific arm of Joe Burrow. With that said, Florida ranks eighth in the nation in scoring defense, permitting just 14.2 points per game, and 19th in total defense, permitting 305.8 yards per contest. If you like Florida, you think that the Gators’ pass rush can harass Burrow and force him into turnovers, like it did with Bo Nix a week ago. Florida does lead the SEC in total sacks, with 26 on the season so far. Florida also comes in having covered the spread three straight weeks and, at least for now, they have a point spread that is gargantuan, given how well the Gators have played thus far.

Why should you put your money on the Tigers?

LSU already has a signature win on the season, but it came back in Week 2, when the Tigers went to Austin and beat the Texas Longhorns. Last week, LSU took on Utah State, and Burrow went 27 for 38 for 344 yards and five touchdowns, and the LSU running game picked up 248 additional yards. While that is impressive, though, Florida’s defense is much stouter than the one Utah State brought. If there is an offense that can break down the Gators’, though, it might be the Tigers’. They lead the nation in scoring, with 52.0 points per week, and they rank second in the nation in yards per game at 561.2. Burrow threw for 471 yards against Texas in Week 2. But can the Tigers’ defense hold? Traditionally, LSU has been a defense-first team, but they gave up 38 points to Texas and 38 against Vanderbilt, not known as a high-scoring program. This could turn into an uncharacteristically high-scoring game for an SEC affair, especially between these two schools.

Final Score Prediction

It is exciting to see SEC teams not named Alabama or Georgia doing well this season. Despite Auburn falling to Florida, if anyone can beat Alabama or Georgia, things will start to get very interesting in this conference. I like what Florida can do — and was very impressed with the play of Kyle Trask leading the Gators’ offense in relief of the injured Feleipe Franks. I see this matchup staying close the whole way, with LSU winning on the last possession — but the Gators covering. I predict a final score of LSU 34, Florida 30.
